Job Description

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Manages process improvements and upgrades manufacturing instructions;
  • Perform standard QC chemist job duties in event of illness, vacation or other reasons as deemed by laboratory manager;
  • Participates in all environmental and safety training as required by Federal, State, County, and Local regulations as well as company policies;
  • Additional duties may be added or removed as management requires.
  • Improve existing products to reduce cost, improve performance, improve manufacturing procedures, with safety as a priority;
  • Provides on-call and overtime support as needed in the evenings and other required times as designated by management;
  • Create and edit TDS’s; • Prepare samples for customers;
  • Maintain clean and organized lab work area; • Assists in management and development of processes and safety programs;
  • Suggests improvements for safety and compliance; • Promptly reports any safety incidents and participates in incident investigations as Position: Product Development Chemist Department: Laboratory Reports to: Laboratory Manager FLSA Status: Exempt Position Description Product Development Chemist requested;
  • Manages inventory reduction per departmental inventory reduction strategy;
  • Conduct research and development of new and existing products in coordination with the laboratory manager;
  • Executes tasks and project responsibilities above semi-independently, problem solving and exercising of judgment in the areas of new product development and testing, product improvement and specific customer related projects.
  • Reverse engineer and de-formulate competitor’s products using both wet and analytical techniques;
  • Acts in a stewardship capacity for the Company, works as a functional member of the team, has ability to self-direct and self-regulate work-day;
  • Compliance and follow through from trainings regarding RCRA, EPA, OSHA, and other company guidelines and trainings for assigned job duties;
  • Create and edit SDS’s in Actio web program;

Placement Criteria:

  • Specialized technical/aptitude experience: minimum of 1-5 years’ experience, and demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with gravimetric and analytic techniques.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively and professionally verbally and in writing, and to provide exceptional service internally and externally;
  • Ability to prioritize workflow and organize diverse materials and ability to handle multiple, competing and changing priorities; ability to perform effectively without supervision and within established time limits and ongoing deadlines.
  • Relevant computer skills for this position include knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office applications, Instrumental software, and business software SAGE Platinum for Windows. Displays adaptability in learning the use of relevant software and displays comprehension of fundamental computer practices and database management
  • Minimum education and practical work experience: bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology or related field and 1-5 years’ experience working in an analytical lab or similar position, or a suitable combination of education and relevant experience;
  • Extensive knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the chemical manufacturing industry; previous work and/or substantial knowledge of, including commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures, within in the thermoset polymer industry is a strongly considered asset.

Physical Demands:

  • This position may require the employee to handle or ship hazardous materials and hazardous waste in accordance with applicable regulations found in 40 and 49 CFR. Strict adherence to the training schedule outlined in the Training Plan is required. These requirements include a New Employee Orientation. Phase 1 Training (90 days on the job). Failure to complete the required training may be grounds for disciplinary action up to and including termination. This position description was provided to the following Employee as indicated below
  • While performing the duties of this position the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, bend and reach, and may occasionally ride in a motor vehicle. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 lbs and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
