Role Description

As a Product Manager for Performance & Reliability, you will play a crucial role in improving the core user experience by making Dropbox’s products more reliable and fast so that they get out of our customer’s way. You will work to improve customer satisfaction, and ultimately retention, through the continued improvement and maintenance of the ease of use, delight, performance, and stability of all core functions across our products.


You will achieve this by developing a deep understanding of how Dropbox compares in the market, identifying high impact opportunities to improve performance and reliability for key areas of our product, and building tools that help other teams at Dropbox improve the product experience at scale. You will be uniquely positioned and empowered to make an impact on the value of tens of millions of users get from Dropbox daily.


Responsibilities
  • Build and evangelize tools and processes that enable all development teams to improve performance and reliability at scale.
  • Obsess over outcomes and know where best to invest the team’s valuable time. Share insights and results throughout the company to evangelize the high-impact foundational work of the area.
  • Partner closely with teams across Dropbox to align development with cross-platform initiatives and ensure consistency of our experiences cross-platform and cross-products.
  • Translate and obsess over customer needs into actionable plans for our engineering teams.
  • Be an expert at prioritization — help balance your roadmap with technical foundational efforts and bugs.
  • Make data-informed product decisions with qualitative and quantitative research.
  • Define the vision and strategy and drive the roadmap to ensure Dropbox products deliver world class reliability and speed.
  • Define performance and reliability improvements and metrics that measures how fast users can interact with the content.
  • Perform customer and market research to understand customer expectations that inform our roadmap.

Basic Qualifications
  • Ability to sell and influence without authority, and deal with ambiguity.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with engineering teams and cross-functional partners in a highly collaborative environment.
  • 4+ years of PM experience working on platform/foundational products.
  • Ability to analyze and use quantitative and qualitative data to inform decisions.
  • Be effective and communicate clearly and concisely with engineering and product leadership, and influence our technical strategy.
  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Business, Applied Math or Statistics, or relevant experience.
  • Build consensus and listen well, but can also drive hard decisions.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and execution skills that solve technical and operational problems for our users to enable foundation innovation.
  • Strong technical abilities and a track record of working through complex technical problems.
  • Deeply empathize with customers and understand both internal and external customer needs.
  • Impact driven and a consistent history of delivering measurable results for both users and the business.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Background working at a company that builds tools for development teams
  • Background in Data Science
  • TPM or Project Management background - strong operational and organizational skills

Total Rewards

For candidates hired in the following locations: Austin (TX) metro, Chicago metro, Colorado, Massachusetts, Maryland, Oregon, Washington D.C. metro, California (outside SF metro), the expected salary/On-Target Earnings (OTE) range for the role is currently $162,200 - $190,800 - $219,400.


For candidates hired in the following locations: Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Illinois (outside Chicago Metro), North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas (outside Austin Metro), Virginia (outside D.C. Metro), the expected salary/On-Target Earnings (OTE) range for the role is currently $144,200 - $169,600 - $195,000.


Range(s) is subject to change. Dropbox takes a number of factors into account when determining individual starting pay, including job and level they are hired into, location/metropolitan area, skillset, and peer compensation. Dropbox uses the zip code of an employee’s remote work location to determine which metropolitan pay range we use.


Salary/OTE is just one component of Dropbox’s total rewards package. All regular employees are also eligible for the corporate bonus program or a sales incentive (target included in OTE) as well as stock in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
