Hybrid – Chicago based (3 Days In the Office)


As part of the Product Management Team, the Interiors Product Manager is responsible for the end-to-end performance of the Hardie®Backer product line, which broadly manages the P&L/baseline business management, product strategy/innovation, and portfolio management. This position will have high cross functional interaction and shared accountability with Segments, Sales, MFG, Supply Chain, and R&D.


What You’ll Do:


Product Management:


Fulfilling the below responsibilities for a large business


  • Retail Management – Ensure our retailers are aligned and capable of selling our products
  • Portfolio Management – Critical analysis, identification, and business alignment around projects that support a check/adjust to any aspect of the product line
  • Baseline product stewardship– P&L, Sales, Service, Capacity, Brand Promise, Quality, Competitors
  • Project Management – Leading projects/key initiatives to improve the business
  • Product Strategy – Ensuring we have the right products and the right value for our customer, end-user, and consumer segments to drive profitable growth
  • Product Roadmap – Leading commercial prioritization for future innovation to drive profitable growth


What You’ll Bring:


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (required):


  • Strong understanding of industrial manufacturing value chain, supply chain and manufacturing environment
  • Results-oriented to ensure delivery of appropriate products and services in an accurate, complete, and timely fashion
  • Demonstrated history developing and maintaining strong relationships with potential partners across industry
  • Ability to analyze business, market trends and partner feedback to better refine product offerings and drive business growth
  • Ability to proactively manage multiple projects in a fast paced, change oriented environment, yet flexible enough to adapt to changes
  • Demonstrated advanced skills with the standard features of various personal computer word processing and spreadsheet software (Microsoft Word and Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet, and proprietary software)
  • Ability to achieve alignment and buy in for strategies and plans to drive achievement of goals
  • Excellent leadership, project management, collaboration skills, and the ability to drive results
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully understand profit and loss techniques and skills to develop and evaluate business goals and strategies, analyze information to derive insights and implications to initiate planning and/or re-planning, and controlling actual results versus budget
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 30%
  • Strong bias for results and ability to work independently as well as interact effectively across functions and at all levels
  • Superior interpersonal and written/oral communication skills with the ability to relate well and cooperate with others to effectively coordinate activities and accomplish goals


Education/Experience:


  • 7-10 years managing a sizable (>$250M) product line
  • Proven analytical abilities and strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and demonstrated abilities to network across different business units
  • Strong understanding of consumer and tradesman marketing principles including value proposition development, feature/benefit analysis and translation of insights to winning concepts
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business, Sales, Engineering, or related field, MBA preferred
  • Proven project management experience in a cross-functional environment
  • Demonstrated P&L leadership in a matrix environment as well as a capability to develop, influence, and deliver strategic and tactical results while balancing priorities in a fast past environment
  • Mass retail experience preferable with DIY home improvement chains
  • Strong understanding of product development principles, stage gate process and business development
  • B2B distribution experience in the builder materials industry a plus
