Vave Health Principal Ultrasound Scientist / Engineer

Purpose

The Principal Ultrasound Scientist is responsible for the Vave ultrasound system overall IQ performance per priority clinical applications, including development of imaging features & modes from R&D concept to NPI development and validation, aligned with Vave’s go-to-market strategy.

Key focus is on ultrasound system signal chain processing design, algorithms, and implementation for improving clinical performance and expanding functionality.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assume full ownership of the ultrasound sound image quality including signal processing algorithm research and development (TX and RX front-end, beamforming, and backend processing), system performance verification, and clinical image optimization.

• Partner with FPGA, FW, and SW App engr. teams in development of RF/IQ data acquisition and analysis tools to improve development environment and improve IQ optimization efficiency.

• Lead systems-level product development, owning design specifications and verifications that complies with related medical device regulations/standards (FDA, IEC, etc.), and internal quality management and design control processes.

• Drive innovation of advanced imaging modes and features from concept to prototyping, into new NPI product implementation and release-to-market.

• Maintain knowledge of the market and manufacturers for ultrasound products, emerging technologies, critical acoustic and electric materials and components, and application trends.

• Work effectively with core stakeholder functions including product management, hardware and software engineering, and clinical to deliver the complete and successful Vave product solution.

• Enforce design control rigor from requirements/specifications, design reviews & documentation, maintenance of design history, and V&V testing to meet business targets with regulatory compliance.

Education

M.S. or PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or other related fields

Experience

• Self-driven personality with a startup mindset, able to collaborate effectively in fast paced environment.
• Expertise in ultrasound technologies and diagnostic imaging for standard imaging modes.
• Strong Matlab and coding skills for algorithm prototyping and development, with basic familiarity with C, C++, C# coding and software design principles.
• Experience and knowledge with the medical product industry and medical device regulations (FDA, CE Mark, IEC, ISO).
• At least 6 years of experience focused in advanced ultrasound technology development
• Strong understanding of ultrasonic acoustics in human tissues and the relationship to ultrasound system and imaging performance.
• Seasoned knowledge of phase & gate software/hardware development life cycle from Concept to R&D design to V&V to Commercial release.
• Experience implementing ultrasound signal/image processing algorithms in simulation environments and ultrasound systems then interpreting results and optimizing for desired performance characteristics.
