Who We Are
Children’s Center is a private, non-profit child abuse intervention center accredited by the National Children’s Alliance. Children are referred to us by law enforcement agencies, child protective workers, parents, teachers, health care providers, and others concerned for their welfare. Our mission is to work with the community to end child abuse and neglect through assessment, treatment, and prevention. Our vision is to build a world where all children feel safe, valued, and heard.
The Role
The Prevention Education Specialist leads the implementation of Children’s Center’s prevention education and training initiatives in Clackamas County. The position engages and maintains relationships with partner organizations, volunteer facilitators and individuals interested in hosting training. They ensure high quality delivery of education and training including Darkness to Light’s nationally recognized Stewards of Children® workshops. The position is responsible for tracking and maintaining accurate and complete evaluation and grant reporting deliverables.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
  • Cultivates mutually beneficial relationships with community partners in Clackamas County. The program will place particular emphasis on those serving rural and/or Hispanic/Latino communities in Clackamas County.
  • Observes or facilitates workshops in English or Spanish as needed to ensure fidelity and quality of curriculum.
  • Maintains individual and organizational contacts, document outreach activities, workshop schedules and logistics. Maintains accurate records of program outcomes and evaluation metrics.
  • Provides parenting education and training on child development and maltreatment prevention using a trauma informed perspective.
  • Leads Stewards of Children Workshops and cultivates, manages, and supports trained Facilitators to offer the Curriculum in English and Spanish.
  • Works with regional and statewide prevention education providers in providing a cohesive, comprehensive, and high-quality prevention education program (e.g., Protect our Children).
  • Coordinates volunteers in the Children’s Center’s Prevention and Community Engagement program.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of prevention education program by gathering data about participants, learning outcomes, and other goals as determined by the PCE committee.
  • Participates on local committees that focus on parent education and support (e.g., Oregon Parenting Education Coalition, OPEC).
  • Provides educational opportunities for target audiences (parents, providers, community members, and children/youth) to foster KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS to prevent child maltreatment.

What We Require
  • Basic proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to do simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to pay attention to details, prioritize tasks, problem solve, act with discretion and be gracious.
  • Ability to work effectively alone, as part of a group, or as a team leader depending on context and needs.
  • Ability to communicate in English effectively, including clarity of thought, and grammar, both verbally and in writing.
  • Bachelor’s degree and one or more years community-based experience in public health, education, social work, or related field; Or, three-four years of program implementation or education experience in a community setting can be substituted for formal schooling.
  • Valid driver’s license, motorized vehicle, and vehicle insurance. Ability to transport self reliably to and from meetings, presentations, and events in Clackamas County.
  • Experience in or ability to learn CRM database management.
What We Prefer
  • Experience developing and nurturing collaborative relationships/partnerships, conducting outreach, coordinating volunteers, making presentations, and receiving feedback from diverse audiences.
  • Public speaking experience.
  • Familiarity with Clackamas County and child advocacy centers.
  • Ability to communicate fluently in Spanish, orally and in writing.
Additional Information
This role requires the ability to reliably travel to and from meetings, presentations, and events in the community approximately 25% of the time. Hours and schedule may vary depending on required tasks.
Some evenings and weekend hours are required for presentations, workshops, travel to professional conferences, and community outreach.
