Hours per Week

• Non-Exempt Position, 33 hours per week.
• This is a temporary, non-benefits eligible position with an expected start date of 06/06/2023 and an expected end date of 07/14/2023

Essential Functions

• Assist in preparation of special PREP activities.
• Providing individual or small group tutoring and supplemental educational activities, as needed or requested
• Attend classes and laboratories with students, assisting instructors and students as needed or requested.
• Supervise research and study period, providing educational support activities and tutoring.
• Monitor and mentor a group of approximately 25 students with the following specific duties:
  • Ensure the safety and appropriate behavior of program participants.
  • Attend classes and laboratories with students, assisting instructors and students as needed or requested.
  • Supervise research and study period, providing educational support activities and tutoring.
  • Providing individual or small group tutoring and supplemental educational activities, as needed or requested
  • Grade student journals and homework. Maintain records of students' work. Monitoring participants' performance and progress.
  • Assist in preparation of special PREP activities.
  • Serve as a "mentor" to students, encouraging the development of a commitment to educational achievement.

• Note: Some program assistant mentors will be assigned to monitor laboratories and/or assist with daily operations. Those who work past July 30 will assist with the following activities: preparation of the final report, program evaluation/survey, and general clerical duties.

Required Qualifications

• Some college with a 2.5 GPA or higher.
• Commitment and interest in assisting middle and high school students in their academic and personal growth.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience working with adolescents.
• Participation in a STEM club or team at the high school and/or collegiate level.
• Preference is given to college science, mathematics, computer science, engineering, STEM Education, or technology majors; and previous PREP participants.
• Coursework in STEM education.
• Completion of Calculus I and other advanced mathematics courses.

Working Conditions

• Must be available to work between the hours of 8:00 AM and 3:30 PM in person Monday - Thursday, and Friday to work remotely from 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM.
• The work location for this position will be vary based on assignment, to include Main Campus, Downtown Campus, Saint Mary's University, Texas A&M San Antonio and/or virtual/hybrid.
