About the Division of Youth Services: The Division of Youth Services (DYS) provides a continuum of residential and non-residential services that encompass juvenile detention, commitment and parole. DYS is the agency statutorily mandated to provide for the care and supervision of youth committed by the District Court to the custody of the Colorado Department of Human Services. The Division operates ten secure facilities that serve youth between the ages of 10 and 21, who are pre-adjudicated, sentenced, or committed. The Division also contracts with numerous private residential and non-residential service providers throughout the State. For pre-adjudicated youth, the Division is also responsible for the management and oversight of Senate Bill 91-94; a State-funded, locally administered program that provides services to youth at risk of further progressing into the juvenile justice system. In addition to residential programming, the Division administers juvenile parole services throughout the State.

Description of Job
This position performs fully operational food production work in the Division of Youth Services Food Services Department located at Lookout Mountain Youth Service Center.
  • Please note: It is possible that this position will be scheduled to work in other DYS locations that are located within a 10 mile radius of Lookout Mountain.**
Shifts will be scheduled between 4:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. and are subject to change based on the needs of the program
Specific Duties Include
Meal Preparation and Service
  • When recipe changes are required, documents changes and submits to facility food service manager
  • Garnishes food on the serving line
  • Enters data onto production worksheets
  • Sets up and tears down serving line as needed.
  • Properly prepares food that is attractive, appetizing, and of proper temperatures
  • Follows DYS menus and recipes in order to comply with National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program and DYS policies and procedures
  • Serves food in the proper quantities according to the DYS recipes
Safety and Security
  • Recognizes safety hazards
  • Follows good safety practices to reduce or prevent slips, trips, falls, burns, etc.
  • Anticipates and identifies potential safety and security problems and reports problems to the facility food managerial or supervisory staff
  • Uses and stores chemicals properly
  • Inventories knives and/or culinary utensils according to facility procedures to prevent loss
  • Uses food service equipment properly
  • Follows DYS policies and facility procedures related to safety and security
  • Follows facility key procedures and ensures that doors are kept locked to prevent escapes.
Sanitation
  • Cleans food services equipment and the physical plant of the kitchen on a regular basis, or as assigned, to keep them free of food particles, dust, and bacteria
  • Complies with the Colorado Retail Food Establishment Rules and Regulations
  • Controls times and temperatures of food to prevent food borne illness
  • Follows proper sanitation procedures for the handling of food and the cleaning of the food service area
Inventory Control
  • Inspects food and food service supplies for accurate quantity and condition upon arrival to the facility
  • Stores raw food and food supplies utilizing a FIFO inventory method
  • Dates all food products upon arrival
  • Signs requisitions and submits to the facility food managerial or supervisory staff
  • In the absence of facility food managerial or supervisory staff requisitions food and food service supplies
  • Assists in taking a physical count of the inventory at least once a month
  • Rejects food and supplies that are inadequate
Training, Meetings & Other duties as assigned
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Attends DYS and facility meetings to maintain and increase knowledge regarding procedural changes
  • Attends training to increase job knowledge and comply with DYS policies and procedures
  • May be required to work any shift, weekends, holidays, and OT to ensure adequate coverage to feed the clients
Experience
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
One (1) year of food services experience including, but not limited to: hosting, serving, delivering, cashiering, prepping, cooking, etc.
Substitutions
CDPHE recognized food safety certification c an substitute for experience.
NOTE: Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hrs per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a pro-rated basis to determine qualifications.
Conditions Of Employment
  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on the application and provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position. Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.

  • Must be willing to submit to a background check
  • Continued employment is contingent upon successful completion of the DYS Pre-service Training Academy, Field Training Program (FTO) and mandatory annual training in all subject areas.
  • Note: Fully Vaccinated means two (2) weeks after a second dose in a two-dose series of the COVID-19 vaccine, such as the Pfizer, Moderna or Novavax vaccine, or two (2) weeks after the single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license
  • Must be available for shift work may be required to work breakfast, lunch or dinner shifts.
  • Use, Handling, or Exposure to hazardous materials
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Essential Services required to report without delay or interruption to provide essential or emergency services to ensure health, safety, and welfare.
  • On or after October 31, 2021, each facility shall ensure all newly hired employees or support staff members are fully vaccinated at the time of hire or receive their first dose of a two-dose protocol, or a single-dose vaccination, prior to providing any care, treatment, or other services for the facility and/or its clients. Upon hire, new employees will have three (3) business days to provide attestation to their status with proof of vaccination. Vaccinated employees must provide proof of first dose prior to providing care.
APPEAL RIGHTS:

An appeal or review must be submitted on the official appeal form, signed by you or your representative. Supplemental Information
  • Sign-on bonus Upon approval, a sign-on bonus based on position, ranging from $2,000 to $7,000 (prorated if a part-time position), will be given in three payments: within two pay cycles of when the new employee starts at CDHS, 180-day anniversary and 270-day anniversary with CDHS. These bonuses will be available to the first 1,000 new employees in select high-need positions.
