Description


The Idaho Department of Parks & Recreation is currently seeking a full-time P&R Program Training Coordinator for our East Region Office stationed in Idaho Falls, ID.


IDPR and our Recreation Bureau strive to educate recreators on the importance of safe recreation. As a Training Coordinator, you will use your experience and education to provide recreation education opportunities on safe boating, off-highway vehicle safety, and snowmobile and winter safety. You will also help with outreach efforts and help coordinate activities with law enforcement personnel, user organizations/groups, and partnering agencies.


Example Of Duties


Training & Public Education Programs


  • Identify and assess training needs and establish training objectives and priorities
  • Teach courses including classroom and field components for internal employees, schools, community education, and other groups
  • Collect and analyze statistical data, prepare records and reports, and may operate specific recreational or other equipment during training exercises
  • Write, develop and edit lesson plans, prepare and administer written and proficiency tests, evaluate program effectiveness and make policy recommendations to supervisor
  • Design, develop and modify courses and materials
  • Interpret, apply, and recommend laws, policies and procedures related to safety and/or user education
  • Develop curricula to ensure related certifications and select, train and certify training instructors


Public Relations/Technical Assistance.


  • May participate in or lead group rides
  • Provide consultation and technical assistance to federal, state and local law enforcement and government officials, user organizations, and private individuals on funding, materials, and instruction necessary to establish specific recreation programs
  • Participate with user organizations in training activities
  • Coordinate activities with law enforcement personnel, educators and user organizations, groups and agencies
  • Represent the department at meetings, conferences and trade shows
  • Coordinate with program managers and the communication manager to write and disseminate specific recreation information and news releases and may initiate and maintain contact with the media
  • Ensure that the program meets all applicable federal, state and local safety and health requirements
  • Make oral presentations on various outdoor recreation topics
  • Respond to inquiries regarding facilities, recreation opportunities, and specific recreation projects and procedures


Minimum Qualifications: Valid driver's license is required.Experience


  • Reviewing and revising instructional course content and materials;typically gained by experience reviewing and revising materials for a minimum of one course involving classroom or field training and a formal assessment process.
  • At least one year ofexperience researching, analyzing, and compiling information with facts and statistics.
  • Teaching classes in a structured learning situation;typically gained by at least six months' teaching experience in a classroom or workshop environment.
  • At least one year ofexperience interpreting and communicating technical and specialized material into oral presentations or written material for the public.


Minimum Qualifications Specialties:Boating


  • Some knowledge of local, state and federal regulations and laws related to all types of recreational boating use;typically gained through experience working for a marine patrol department, US Coast Guard, or other government agency OR completion of NASBLA approved course.
  • Experience operating motorized watercraft;typically gained by at least twelve (12) months cumulative experience handling powerboats, sailboats, or personal watercraft.
  • Good knowledge of boating safety practices;typically gained by successful completion of a National Association of Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) approved safety course within the last five (5) years.


Off Highway Vehicles
  • Experience operating snowmobiles, ATVs, and trail bikes;typically gained through at least two years' experience independently operating off-highway vehicles for recreation use in varied terrain.
  • Some knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and laws related to motorized off-highway recreational vehicle use;typically gained through at least one-year affiliation with an organized off-highway vehicle club and participation in organized off highway vehicle rides on public lands.
  • Good knowledge of off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) responsible use and safety practices;typically gained by successful completion of at least one agency or vendor-sponsored ATV or general OHV safety course, i.e. courses offered through ASI (ATV Safety Institute), MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation), state agencies or the Snowmobile Safety Institute within the last five (5) years.
