Job Description
Description

Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

Key job responsibilities

This is an electrical engineering position focused on electrical ground support equipment design and integrated test verification of power subsystem for Kuiper satellites. In this role, you will be responsible for electrical test setup definition and satellite power subsystem testing in various vehicle configurations from design verification, production testing, to launch integration. You will own test plan development and drive technical data reviews for verification compliance. You will provide engineering and technical support on satellite production testing and launch-site activities from satellite build to the day of launch. You will drive pathfinding test activities to verify power and communications interfaces, harnessing, and automated electrical ground support test systems.

In this role, you will travel 20% of the time, including extended travel.

Export Control Requirement

Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

A day in the life

This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position. You will work with leaders in multiple engineering areas, technical staff, and highly skilled technicians on a daily basis. This is a cross-functional role requiring frequent interaction with multiple HW/SW design teams, launch vehicle partners, and mission management. You’ll have relentlessly high standards for yourself and everyone you work with, and you’ll be constantly looking for ways to improve system performance, and manage non-conformances into actionable items and procedural improvements. We want individuals who are ready for this challenge and want to reach beyond what is possible today.

About The Team

This engineer will be a member of the Electrical/Power team working within the wider Electrical Engineering organization. This highly collaborative group of engineers has a diverse range of backgrounds and knowledge and we are looking for help to integrate our satellites onto multiple launch vehicles in a scalable and reliable way. Everyone on the team needs to be entrepreneurial, wear many hats and work in a highly collaborative environment. We tackle problems that span a variety of domains. We are seeking excellent candidates who have a passion for aerospace systems.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience and working knowledge of electrical design verification, test fixtures, and standard electronic lab test equipment (i.e., power supplies, oscilloscopes, multimeters, etc.)
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical design, power testing, system integration for complex systems
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, aerospace engineering, or related engineering fields

Preferred Qualifications

  • Cross-organizational communication – comfortable evangelizing ideas and concerns clearly and persuasively, in both verbal and written forms
  • Experience with design of automated test systems and electrical ground support equipment for power functional testing
  • Familiarity with satellite processing facilities, launch facilities, launch base processing, hardware transportation, and launch support operations
  • Experience developing and verifying interface control documentation and requirements specification for complex systems like electric vehicles, satellites, and launch vehicles
  • Electrical design experience in the area of electric vehicle, drones, robotics, satellite, or launch vehicles
  • Experience with satellite power subsystem test verification (electrical/mechanical/harness interfaces, functional checkouts, and development of verification reports to ensure requirement compliance)
  • Experience with design or test of power electronics, data acquisition systems, battery charging, solar array, and communication busses
