Position Overview
Primary Function Of Organizational Unit
Our purpose is to foster an environment which encourages research, scholarly inquiry and creative activities by the faculty through technically assisting in the acquisition of extramural funding. We also serve as the primary portal and provider for all sponsored research questions and concerns related to extramural funding for North Carolina Central University.
Primary Purpose Of Position
The primary purpose of this position is to ensure proficiency and effectiveness in its delivery of grant-maintenance functioning services to its customers. The Assistant Director of Post-Award in the Office of Sponsored Research and Programs is responsible for assisting with the management and oversight of the university sponsored research funding portfolio; supervised by the Director in the Office of Sponsored Research and Programs, is supported by three post-award accountants and two accounting technicians. The proposed position will minimize delays, ensure that deadlines are met, and enhance the all-around customer service approach for the department and the University. The general duties of this position will be to monitor and prepare monthly, quarterly, annual or final financial reports. In addition, the responsibility for the timely submission of invoices/billings to internal and external agencies-will be required. This position will approve all actions, such as journal entries, timesheets, and conduct performance appraisals for the post-award team that will report directly to him/her. This position will establish and maintain grant accounts, prepare certified and revised budgets, analyze accounts, prepare necessary journal and budget transfer entries, review and analyze deficit cash reports, and monitor cash drawdowns for various grant funds. This position will interact with principal investigators on a daily basis to resolve concerns or answer questions on their grants in order to expedite daily functions. Additional responsibilities will include implementing contractual and grants functions as they relate to the Office of Sponsored Research and Programs, reviewing employment contracts, involvement in the Banner payroll process and assisting in the development of policies and procedures within the department. This position will also assist the Director of Office of Sponsored Research and Programs in all post-award activities. In the Director of Office of Sponsored Research and Programs absence, this position will function as the Acting Director for Post-Award Services.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
The successful applicant should possess an in-depth knowledge of BANNER; the full Microsoft suite; federal, state, and university regulations, and policies and procedures; must possess an in-depth knowledge of accounting, payroll and grant practices and principles, and systems design; and must possess the ability to recognize complex

The successful applicant must possess knowledge to consistently serve as a technical resource; the ability to identify problems and changing requirements regarding management needs, auditing, fiscal procedures, account structures or reports, and accounting systems. The successful candidate must have the ability to coordinate and manage workflow and implement decisions; and possess communications skills which enable the employee to convey highly complex information in a clear and understandable manner.
Minimum Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or Associate’s degree in Accounting; or Associate’s degree in Business or related discipline with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
