Job Description

The Portfolio Analyst will be a member of the NeighborWorks Capital Portfolio Management and Finance teams. The Portfolio Analyst is responsible for loan administration, support for ongoing portfolio management including loan analysis, loan funding, and project monitoring, and assisting with improvement to systems. In addition, the Portfolio Analyst will perform financial statement analysis for NeighborWorks Capital, support the development and monitoring of the budget, and assist with financial forecasting and modeling. The Analyst will gather and input data, analyze information, prepare and send reports, develop reporting tools, review data accuracy, and collaborate with business teams. The position requires strong organizational skills, proactive communication internally and externally, ability to meet deadlines, ability to build rapport with borrowers via phone and email, a strong penchant for accuracy, and financial analysis to succeed in meeting the diverse financing needs of community-based nonprofit developers in the NeighborWorks network.

Location:Silver Spring, MD (remote candidates will be considered)


Related duties and responsibilities

Loan Portfolio Administration

  • Maintain portfolio cash flow tracking and support Portfolio Managers to forecast proactively
  • Track and maintain impact data necessary for CDFI reporting purposes
  • Develop reporting capacity within Nortridge and Salesforce systems
  • Support Portfolio Management team’s efforts to manage portfolio and complete portfolio tasks
  • Manage Salesforce Reporting Portal and customer communications
  • Support NeighborWorks Capital investor reporting requirements
  • Prepare and update monthly reports for internal and external parties

Loan Compliance

  • Coordination and support for the reporting portal and provide leadership in enhancing it for internal and external users
  • Coordinate receipt of borrowers’ annual, quarterly, and monthly reporting, following up with borrowers as needed
  • Review requests for loan modifications/extensions and collect information necessary for analysis of such requests
  • Monitor compliance with insurance and tax requirements and track in system
  • Assist Portfolio Managers in confirming repayment plans and timing with borrowers 90 days in advance of maturity
  • Review financial information of borrowers, guarantors, and projects to ensure that loan covenants are being met
  • Assist with the input of borrower information into annual review forms for loans in the portfolio


Loan Closings and Disbursements

  • Assist Portfolio Managers to board loans in systems
  • Review Loan Closing Summary to ensure transfer of information to portfolio management
  • Track and complete file review checklist post-closing to ensure that all needed documents are received and filed appropriately

Finance

  • Work with Controller and CFO in the development of the annual budget
  • Work with CFO to reforecast the budget quarterly (tracking initial budget assumptions to actual results)
  • Assist in preparing grant requests
  • Assist in responding to investor requests for loan and portfolio information
  • Analyze financial statements for NeighborWorks Capital each quarter and prepare finance dashboards

General

  • Share responsibility with Loan Officers for relationship management of borrowers or potential borrowers to create loyalty and repeat business
  • Meet many deadlines while supporting a portfolio of loans
  • Listen attentively to others - ask clarifying questions to gain a better understanding of the other person’s views
  • Positively recognize the accomplishments of customers and co-workers
  • Maintain flexibility and adaptability to change
  • Support and promote Loan Officers’ ability to procure new loans from existing borrowers
  • Communicate courteously and effectively with others – deal with issues directly, in a respectful and timely manner, and focus on resolving the issue while not criticizing the person
  • Proactively induce borrowers to deliver timely information when needed
  • Build relationships with borrowers post-closing and encourage them to work in partnership with NeighborWorks Capital
  • Work effectively in a team environment and actively participate in joint problem solving; willingly cooperate with co-workers
  • Resolve conflicts through negotiation, effectively balancing borrower needs with risk mitigation for NeighborWorks Capital
  • Honor the private and confidential matters of customers, partners, and co-workers
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Work cooperatively and constructively with a wide variety of people
  • Come to meetings prepared, honor work commitments, and meet deadlines

Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (verbal and written)
  • At least three years of experience in real estate development, banking, or loan administration at a financial institution; experience in affordable housing or community development a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, public administration, city/urban/regional planning or related field is required
  • Excellent organizational skills with outstanding attention to detail and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, follow through, and meet deadlines
  • Openness to learning new skills and systems, with an entrepreneurial work ethic
  • Ability to act professionally at all times and safeguard confidential borrower financial and other information
  • Ability to travel to participate in conferences (5% - 10%)
  • Fluent in English
  • Ability to enter data and use database software; experience with Salesforce or other loan management and servicing database software a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Pleasant, borrower-friendly nature with personable, cooperative attitude
  • Desire to be part of a team in a mission-based organization
  • Other relevant experience and/or education will be considered in exchange for up to two of the three required years


Compensation:

Annual salary range of $80,000 to $90,000, plus excellent employer-paid benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, paid holidays, unlimited PTO, life insurance, disability, 6% contribution of eligible salary to 401(k), transportation subsidy, matching contribution plan to eligible nonprofits, and bonus potential up to 10% of salary.
