SIUE Police Services is conducting open recruitment for LATERAL TRANSFER* Police Officer(s) vacancies. The SIUE Police Department is a community-oriented law enforcement agency comprised of sworn police officers and civilian employees. SIUE police officers are certified law enforcement officers with full investigatory and arrest authority granted by Illinois law. The SIUE Police Department is open and accessible to the University community 24 hours a day and has its own telecommunication unit. The SIUE Police Department strives to provide a safe and secure campus environment by: utilizing a community-oriented philosophy of policing; conducting routine, preventative patrols; and enforcing both the criminal and traffic statutes of the State of Illinois.
Duties
Routine duties for campus Police Officers can include but are not limited to
SIUE Police Officers are responsible for performing general duty police work which includes the protection of life and property through enforcement of laws, ordinances, and University rules and regulations. Police Officers also provide service related needs for the University communities, such as vehicle lock-outs and safety escorts.
  • Patrol University communities (Edwardsville, East St. Louis and Alton) by car or on foot.
  • Assist other local law enforcement agencies as needed.
  • Control and assist the movement of vehicles and pedestrian traffic by physically directing traffic.
  • Identify, investigate, and report hazards that might endanger the public safety and/or University physical plant spaces or equipment.
  • Respond to requests for non-enforcement service assistance to the University Communities.
Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned in support of the department’s mission and goals. Due to the professional responsibilities of this position, shift assignments and workdays will vary including weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Location assignments are based on University and department need but candidates must be able to work at all three campus locations: Edwardsville, East St. Louis, and Alton.   • Lateral transfer candidates must have at least two years of full-time sworn and certified law enforcement work experience. If candidate is not a current LEO, there must be no more than a three year break in service since last employment. See qualifications for full-details.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of employment as a full-time sworn and certified law enforcement officer.
  • A: Certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) OR be Eligible for Certification by ILETSB. (Visit ILETBS for waiver/certification process )
AND
B: Satisfy the Requirements Established by the ILETSB.
  • Possess a valid State of Illinois driver's license.
  • Applicant must not have been suspended for disciplinary reasons by their current or most recent employer.
  • Must pass a background investigation which may include features such as fingerprinting, police records checks, credit checks, and inquiries of neighbors, relatives, and employers.
  • Have no more than a three (3) year break in LEO service at the time of application.
  • Must successfully complete a screening such as a polygraph. psychological evaluation. medical examination. and drug screen as required by the hiring department.
  • Be in good standing in the police department currently serves or separated from a police department with no adverse employment action.
