Developmental Assignment

CAREER ADVANCEMENT PROGRAM: All Professional Work Category positions advertised at a Pay Band 2 are part of NGA's Career Advancement Program (CAP). Employees in the Career Advancement Program will be evaluated semi-annually to determine if they meet the established program requirements. If requirements are met, employees will be eligible for a salary increase. Upon meeting all program requirements, the employee is eligible to be promoted non-competitively to a Pay Band 3. This promotion completes Career Advancement Program participation meaning the employee will no longer receive salary increases through the Career Advancement Program, and will now be evaluated in accordance to the Agency's standard evaluation processes.

Job Summary

ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION: Police Officers ensure compliance with Federal laws and Agency rules and regulations pertaining to law enforcement work. They maintain law and order; protect civil rights; carry firearms; provide assistance in emergency situations; investigate criminal activity and misconduct; and safeguard NGA personnel and assets. They also conduct patrols; prevent and detect violations; prepare accident and incident reports; and conduct searches, interviews, and briefings.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: If selected for further evaluation, you will receive an invitation via email to attend a Police Officer Hiring Event to participate in our screening activities to include physical and written evaluations. The Office of Protective Services seeks dynamic, high-interpersonal, self-motivated, independent, and team-oriented individuals to serve as Police Officers providing anti-terrorism force protection, law enforcement, and security services for NGA facilities, personnel, and assets. The selectees will be responsible for responding to initial security incidents, accidents, preparing detailed reports, conducting physical security operations, conducting field interviews, collecting evidence as required, and utilizing a variety of firearms and less-lethal weapons during the execution of their duties. The Office of Protective Services is a 24x7 operation. Police Officers are required to work nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and are subject to recall on a 24-hour basis. Police Officer candidates must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions, and under strenuous and potentially dangerous conditions. NGA Police Offices are required to sign a Continued Service Agreement requiring completion of 3 years' service with the Office of Protective Services. Officers that leave the DoD, NGA, or the IC prior to completing the 3-year period of service may be required to reimburse the Agency for tuition and travel costs associated with required training. UNIFORMS AND APPEARANCE POLICY: NGA Police Officers are subject to uniforms and appearance standards, to include restrictions on tattoos and facial hair. Tattoos, body art, or bands anywhere on the head, face, or neck are prohibited. Additionally, any visible tattoo, body, art, or bands elsewhere on the body that are extremist, indecent, sexist, or racist are prohibited. NGA Police Officers may have neatly trimmed facial hair, no longer than a of an inch in length, while on duty. FLETC WAIVER: FLETC Waivers are not being granted at this time due to change in guidance by the Department of Defense (DoD) but this guidance could possibly change in the future. Additionally: 1. Per the Lautenberg Amendment, applicants who have been convicted of domestic violence, or are under a restraining (protection) order for domestic violence are not eligible for employment as an NGA Police Officer. 2. Police Officers may be required to take their assigned firearms home. 3. In applying for a Police Officer position with NGA, the applicant consents to and authorizes NGA to perform a preliminary criminal and driving record background check via the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), National Law Enforcement Telecommunication System (NLETS), and Law Enforcement Defense Data Exchange (D-DEx) to determine employee eligibility. 4. Successful completion of an NGA accepted police academy is required in order to maintain employment, as mandated by DoD Instruction 5525.15. 5. Applicants are required to take and pass an initial Physical Ability Test (PAT) and medical physical examination conducted by the NGA Medical Unit. Also, applicants must take and pass the written entrance exam, polygraph examination, drug test, and receive a favorable security clearance adjudication before hire. Agency Police Officers are required to take an NGA administered medical exam and fitness test annually, and maintain a "pass" status while participating in random polygraph examinations and drug tests. 6. Applicants are required upon hire, to have a valid driver's license and must maintain a valid driver's license throughout their employment with NGA. 7. Applicants may be subject to a psychological examination conducted by the NGA Medical Unit as part of our pre-hire evaluation process. 8. At least 21 years of age. Mandatory Qualifications

MANDATORY QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: For this particular job, applicants must meet all competencies reflected under the Mandatory Qualification Criteria to include education (if required). Demonstrated ability or experience to interpret laws, policies, and/or instructions governing law enforcement, security, and/or force protection activities. 2. Demonstrated ability or experience to adapt to rapidly changing environments while maintaining a level of situational awareness. 3. Demonstrated ability and/or experience preparing reports/documentation. EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: A. Education: A minimum of 2 years of coursework beyond the high school level with at least 12 semester (18 quarter) hours, preferably in Criminology, General Law, Law Enforcement, Police Administration, Police Investigation, Police Law and Evidence. -OR- B. Combination of Education and Experience: A minimum of 12 semester (18 quarter) hours in any area listed in option A, plus experience that provides knowledge of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques. As a rule, every 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of college work is equivalent to one year of experience. Candidates should show that their combination of education and experience totals to 2 years. -OR- C. Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience in law enforcement or security work that provides knowledge of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques. Experience can also include military work that involved protecting property, equipment, data, or materials; making judgments based on the application of directions, rules, regulations, or laws; or other work that provided the required knowledge and skills related to law enforcement or security work. -AND- LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: A valid driver's license and must maintain a valid driver's licenses while employed at NGA; Successful completion of an initial Physical Ability Test (PAT) as mandated by DOD Instruction 5525.15 and determined by command staff. -AND- Must successfully complete the Uniformed Police Training Program through the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC). The following Certification must be maintained after your FLETC's training: Firearms Certification, Less-lethal weapons use Certification (e.g. monadock, oleoresin capsicum (OC); Successful completion of First Aid/CPR course. Successful completion of an NGA accepted police academy. Highly Desired Qualifications

QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: In addition to the mandatory qualifications, experience in the following is desired: 1. Utilizing police communications systems, emergency equipment, less-lethal weapons and firearms. 2. Processing crime scenes and controlling property and evidence. 3. Investigating criminal incidents, traffic accidents, preparing written reports, and responding to emergency situations. 4. Detecting deceptive behavior and utilizing surveillance techniques. 5. Applying criminal codes, vehicle codes, and search/seizure principles. 6. Completion of a certified police or military academy that meets or exceeds the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), Uniformed Police Training Program (UPTP).

Additional Job Requirements

You must be able to obtain and retain a Top Secret security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information. In addition, you are subject to a Counterintelligence Polygraph examination in order to maintain access to Top Secret information. All employees are subject to a periodic examination on a random basis in order to determine continued eligibility. Refusal to take the examination may result in denial of access to Top Secret information, SAP, and/or unescorted access to SCIFs. Employees with SCI access and who are under NGA cognizance are required to submit a Security Financial Disclosure Report, SF-714, on an annual basis in order to determine continued eligibility. Failure to comply may negatively impact continued access to Top Secret information, Information Systems, SAP, and/or unescorted access to SCIFs.
