Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by vocational or technical training; supplemented by two years of experience in collecting and processing evidence and crime scene evidence experience; or an equivalent combination of education experience or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to intake, release and process all physical evidence and property of cases for Fulton County Police Department.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Processes intake of property and evidence; involves collecting, receiving, examining, and storing of physical evidence or property;
Receives and logs in laboratory samples, logs in accordance with the evidence tracking procedures and transports drugs and firearms evidence to the appropriate laboratory for testing; stores in accordance with recommended legal guidelines.
Manages the release of property to the owners.
Maintains record of evidence tracking; insures the integrity of the evidence for courtroom use in prosecution of offenders and prepares evidence for courts cases.
Inputs serial numbers and suspect information into the website database of Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms (ATF) and Explosives when stolen merchandises have been recovered; researches serialized firearms and sends out proper notifications to property owners; stores firearms following appropriate procedures; prepares Notice of Destruction notices for newspaper publication of unclaimed firearms and prepare items for destruction trips to the burn plant in compliance with department regulations and State laws.
Performs periodic check of all evidence to ensure accuracy in database; applies barcodes to evidence and processes items for proper storage.
Operates a variety of computer systems; researches resource materials and knowledge of laws; conducts inquires on stolen property; identifies the disposition on cases; finds the identity and addresses of victims and suspects; determines the disposition of evidence in accordance with the law.
Assists officers and the public via face-to-face and telephone by providing and/or returning evidence and photographs items as necessary before releasing to owners or Police Officers.
Communicates with management and supervisors to develop, maintain, and modify inventory and audit procedures in order to insure the security of the police evidence facility.

evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.
