Laird Performance Materials, A DuPont Business, is seeking a Plastics Processing Engineer for their research and development site in Circleville, Ohio. The role provides technical expertise and strategic direction to develop and commercialize specialty materials to support important markets such as telecommunications and automotive applications. The Cleveland site has thermoplastic compounding and injection molding capabilities dedicated solely to development and customer application support.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Networks and leverages the broader organization, as needed
  • Provide expertise and guidance on tooling design to support customer activities
  • Identify and work with technical personnel to develop best practices for process(es)/equipment
  • Responsible to ensure adequate basic data is created for CapEx projects and provides resourcing support
  • Leads troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex process, material, and properties interactions
  • Provides processing expertise and support to drive research and development projects
  • Assists in the development of the 5 year technology improvement roadmap
  • Drives/leads changes of design for areas of responsibility
  • Responsible for developing/updating maintenance/operating procedures for laboratory equipment
  • May have supervisory responsibilities; provide guidance to other team members to drive development activities


JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant process and troubleshooting knowledge required. (Preferred 5+ years)
  • Technical Degree (BS, MS, or Ph.D) in Plastics, Polymer Science, Chemical, Materials, or Mechanical Engineering required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills; must work well in both self-managed and team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, coach, mentor, develop others, and work in a team-based environment
  • Ability to access and network with appropriate site and corporate teams to gain or share knowledge
  • Demonstrated ability to apply technical knowledge to diagnose, troubleshoot, solve or help others solve equipment and/or process issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize and manage multiple, complex, time-sensitive projects
  • Working knowledge of MoldFlow software and plastic part design
  • Demonstrated skill in team building and achieving results through influence and negotiation

Responsibilities:

  • Drives/leads changes of machine & process control design for areas of responsibility
  • Provides technical support to areas of responsibility
  • Assists in the development of the 5-year technology improvement roadmap

About the Business Unit and Site Location

The Cleveland site is a combined research, development, and operations location for Laird Performance Materials. Development activities in this business area flow to a number of manufacturing sites around the world. This business unit is part of DuPont’s Electronics and Industrial Platform.
