Role Overview

We are looking for:

The Plant Manager has total responsibility for manufacturing strategy, site organization, site supervision, and site performance of the Havre de Grace, MD production facility. The Plant Manager is the process owner of manufacturing strategy, performance management, cost management processes, technological development and is the primary plant interface to business, operations, and central engineering management. The Plant Manager is a member of the respective Business Management and SSP Operations Teams and as such contributes to development of the business and operational strategies.

We count on you for:

  • Oversees Purchasing and Stores Management of inventories, including ensuring availability of raw materials, critical supplies, spares. Works with the Supply Chain Director to optimize these activities.
  • Is a change agent for the implementation and appropriate use of Lean Six Sigma.
  • Ensures monthly monitoring of cost performance and awareness, handles Plant finance/accounting, balances working capital with Plant needs, tracks costs, prepares monthly financial reports, and develops and manages fixed, variable and capital cost budgets.
  • Ensures performance and succession management systems are in place to improve all phases of plant performance and drive continuous improvement.
  • Manages new Product Development activities and Technological improvements, and monitors the health of the existing processes and equipment.
  • Leads development of the plants facility strategy and Long Range Plan, including: Capital project scopes, implementation and control.
  • Leads the plant in safety and auditing of safety processes through the development of HSE programs, management of HSE cases, close supervision of safety systems, maintenance of OSHA/Responsible Care compliance, and regulation of environmental compliance.
  • Audits quality systems and manages issues that arise to completion, including supervising quality metrics, being aware of audits and checks, managing cost of poor quality inputs, maintaining quality systems (ISO, TS, QS, A2LA, etc.), and overseeing the Quality Assurance/Quality Control Laboratory.
  • Represents the Plant on Business Management and Operations Teams, and has accountability for participating in the development of respective strategy development.
  • Leads development and successful implementation of a plant manufacturing strategy in alignment with company, business, and operational goals.
  • Works to improve customer satisfaction through such means as seeing that effective reliability, product quality, customer satisfaction, and improvement systems are in place.

You will bring:

  • Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices (GAPP) as it relates to Manufacturing Plants.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Engineering Degree Required (Chemical Preferred); Advanced degree in Engineering or Business (MBA) a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental standards and regulations, particularly related to personnel and process safety and compliance with environmental regulations regarding air, water and waste.
  • 10+ years of related management experience in plastics or chemical production facility. Experience in a specialties manufacturing is preferred.
  • Broad knowledge of general chemical and engineering disciplines usually gained through a degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent Engineering or Chemistry discipline.
  • Negotiating skills for working with governmental regulatory agencies and customers.
  • Active Community involvement experience a plus.
  • Leadership skills are necessary for directing, motivating, and developing plant employees.

  • The U.S. base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this position is $162,710 to $203,388 per year. Since actual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted base salary range. Total compensation for this role also includes bonus and/or other incentives.
