The Plant Manager is responsible for ensuring that CGC customers receive value by manufacturing and delivering CGC products while at the same time ensuring that the plant operates at a profit. This is accomplished by meeting production volumes while controlling the costs associated with the facility, buildings, utilities, equipment, tools, material, time, and labor required to meet the customer’s demand. The Plant Manager is under an incentive plan which, if goals are met, will yield additional personal compensation. The Plant Manager is expected to drive Container Graphics CS1 mindset and always represent the company in a positive, energetic, and consistent manner. The Plant Manager reports directly to the Regional Manager.
- Ensure that employee morale remains high through recognition of good performance and conflict resolution programs.
- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and housekeeping throughout the plant.
- Develop and communicate production incentive plans and ensure that performance appraisals are submitted in a timely fashion for approval and wage changes.
- Ensure full and complete implementation of the corporate safety (HSE) manual throughout the plant.
- Recruit, interview, test and select qualified applicants for needed management positions in production, customer service, and administration in accordance with all federal and state fair employment laws.
- Ensure that the quality of the finished product meets our CS2 standard before shipping.
- Develop and maintain production volume in order to meet planned contribution objectives.
- Identify training needs, coach, and encourage managers in the policies, procedures, safe practices, management techniques, labor laws, skills, and performance standards of their positions.
- Understand and administer the corporate policies and procedures as related to financial accounting (billing,receivables, payables, payroll, inventory, incentive plans, leases, productivity, CS1 lates and no charges), sales, manufacturing, human resources, and the Quality Management System.
- Ensure full and complete implementation of corporate engineering machine maintenance programs.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
The Plant Manager must know the entire product line technically, and how to apply the product for the customer’s highest efficiency. The Plant Manager must know how to plan, organize, staff, train, direct and control the entire operation. This knowledge is typically gained through formal education, on-the-job training, previous production and management experience, professional memberships, attending seminars or reading industry and trade journals. Satisfactory completion of either a college degree in a related field or knowledge gained from years of experience is required.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and decision making when compared with the objectives as stated above.
- Ability to read and analyze financial reports, computer spreadsheets, charts, and graphs. Also, must have the ability to use a personal computer to generate e-mail, correspondence, and spreadsheets.
- Ability to recognize problems which interfere with the objectives as stated above and negotiate effectively with people to resolve the problems.
- Ability to set objectives, write performance appraisals and personally interface with subordinates concerning their performance. This includes the ability to coach and develop skills in the management team.
- Ability to implement systems and train personnel to detect errors, analyze product failures, analyze, and resolve technical production problems, make schedule projections.
- Ability to present a professional image and behavior while on the job.
- Ability to interview and select candidates, communicate goals, motivate subordinates, and facilitate behavior changes.
- Ability to lead by example, using honesty, integrity, and sincerity. Must communicate well, both verbally and in writing. Must be respected and accepted as a leader by the management team as well as earn the confidence of the plant personnel. This requires the individual to listen carefully, comprehend complex issues and exercise good judgment in decision making.
- Physical effort is required in walking, inspecting, speaking, lifting, reaching, pulling and pushing.
- Mental effort required is substantial to follow through on production schedule, overcome and solve issues on press, in customer’s plants and CGC die shops as needed.
