Job Description

The University of Utah College of Health and Department of Physical Therapy & Athletic Training is seeking individuals to support a study evaluating telehealth rehabilitation for persons with chronic back pain. The primary responsibilities of the persons working in these positions are to follow research protocols and provide treatment sessions using telehealth for persons with chronic back pain. They will interact with research patients who are receiving care at Community Health Centers throughout the state of Utah, and with other research staff on the study team. Because of the patient population involved in this study, the persons working in these positions must be able to communicate in both Spanish and English. Position may be full- or part-time depending on the applicant’s preferences and the work needs.
This position is funded by an NIH grant that is anticipated to end August 31, 2025.
Due to the COVID -19 situation, employees may need to provide their own home office space, internet connection, telephone, and have the ability to work independently.

Responsibilities
1.Provide telehealth sessions involving instruction in exercise, patient education and instructions for self-management of back pain
2.Conduct telephone calls to patients to introduce the study and offer the opportunity to enroll in the study
3.Participate in obtaining informed consent
4.Assist in scheduling patients for follow-up study treatment sessions and assessments
5.Data entry into REDCap study database
6.Documentation of all communications and sessions with study participants
7. Identify and report adverse events and protocol deviations.
8.Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required: Often: Office Environment, oils (there is air or skin exposure to oils or other cutting fluids), Seldom: Infectious disease, hazards (includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals).
Physical Requirements and Level of Frequency that may be required Nearly Continuously: Hearing, listening, talking.Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking, standing, sitting, bending, reaching overhead.Seldom: Lifting – up to 50 pounds, pulling, pushing, twisting, kneeling, squatting

Minimum Qualifications
Required
Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Current license to practice as a Physical Therapist in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the Physical Therapy Compact if switching residency to State of Utah. Must maintain current Physical Therapy Compact (multi-state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. We protect our patients, coworkers and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.

Preferences
Able to communicate in both English and Spanish highly preferred.
At least one year of experience providing physical therapy treatment to persons with chronic back pain highly preferred
Completion of University RATS Clinical Certification within one year of hire required.
Completion of CITI Human Subjects and Good Clinical Practice Training within one month of hire required.
Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both oral and written.
Knowledge of Good Clinical Practices, HIPAA and IRB regulations; an understanding of research procedures; and the ability to function independently is preferred.
Experience with human subjects research
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software programs.
Experience with REDCap
