The Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Miami is currently seeking a full time Physical Therapy Assistant to work in Miami, FL. The Physical Therapy Assistant assists with a patient's rehabilitative activities. Additionally, the incumbent facilitates exercise instruction and demonstration, and patient evaluation and testing. An employee in this position works with an emphasis on helping patients and clients suffering from injuries or diseases to restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
- Maintains confidentiality of all patient information according to federal, local, and state guidelines and regulations.
- Assists with the evaluation of new patients, establishment of goals, and development of appropriate treatment plans.
- Maintains a satisfactory level of productivity and demonstrates willingness to adjust personal schedule in case of crisis and real clinic need.
- Utilizes treatment tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
- Communicates with physicians and their staff to obtain necessary information and suggests revisions in treatment.
- Documents all evaluations, treatments, and other pertinent patient interactions.
- Participates in quality and safety improvement activities.
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
- Provides relevant information to patients and families regarding medical conditions and gives them instructions for conducting home activities.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Associate Degree in relevant field
Certification and Licensing:
Certification in relevant specialty or field
Experience:
Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

Department Specific Functions
- Orient, instruct and direct work activities for support personnel as appropriate.
- Progress patients skillfully and safely through the levels of treatment within the maximum capabilities of the patient.
- Assist in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment.
- Participate in quality and safety improvement activities as directed by the Department Director.
- Perform any other duties as directed by the Department Director.
- Use treatment tools and equipment safely and effectively.
- Participate in program development and marketing efforts as directed by the Department Director.
- Demonstrate knowledge and ability to apply therapeutic principles and practices within the scope of professional limitations.
- Consult with supervising Physical Therapist regarding progress and changes in patient’s condition.
- Provide physical therapy treatment to patients in accordance with an established treatment plan as directed by a physical therapist.
- Provide relevant education to patient and family regarding home programs and activities.
- Actively pursue professional growth through professional affiliations with associates and attendance at workshops and conferences. Understand and follow all UMH policies.
- Develop and maintain effective communication with the patient, family, and other members of the rehabilitation team.
- Maintain a satisfactory level of productivity according to clinic standards and demonstrate willingness to adjust personal schedule in case of crisis and real clinic need.
- Document all treatment and other pertinent patient interaction in accordance with UMH policies.
Department Specific Qualifications
Education:
Graduate of a Physical Therapy Assistant program approved by the APTA
Certification and Licensing:
Holds a current state license as a Physical Therapist Assistant
Experience:
New graduate, entry-level accepted, although some experience is preferred.
