Job Description

TITLE: Physical Education/Weights/Health Teacher


Job Title:
Physical Education/Weights/Health Teacher

Reports To: Principal

Supervises: Para-professionals, students

Coaching: Coaching opportunities are available with this job including but not limited to: head junior high football, head junior high wrestling, assistant junior high track, assistant junior high girls basketball, and assistant junior high volleyball.


Job Goal:
To develop in each student an understanding of the relationship of good body function and exercise; to motivate each pupil to cultivate physical fitness, hygienic habits, and good social and emotional adjustment; to discover and develop talents of students in physical achievement; to develop strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual, and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each student’s ability.


Performance Responsibilities

  • Implement board and administration policies.
  • Provide instruction in middle school health as stipulated by Missouri Learning Standards (certification required)
  • Manage junior high weights program
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Participate in professional organizations.
  • Follow all requirements set forth by DESE and district board policies.
  • Participate in curriculum development and revision.
  • Serve on advisory and study committees/teams.
  • Participate in the evaluation of school programs and policies.
  • Provide instruction in middle school physical education as stipulated by Missouri Learning Standards (certification required)
  • Participate in the district's assessment program.
  • Seek to develop communication and cooperation between the home and school.
  • Be a good role model for students and peers.
  • Create a safe, orderly, and positive environment for learning.
  • Guide students in the learning process to achieve learning objectives.
  • Works cooperatively with other health and PE education teachers in planning a balanced program.
  • Strive for good working relationships with other staff members.
  • Accurately keep; and report necessary records such as student progress, grades, and attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by administration.
  • Maintain good discipline in the classroom, in the school, and at school activities.


Supervisory Duties

Supervises students at all times.


Qualifications

Education/Experience/Certificates

Bachelors degree and Missouri Teacher’s Certification; or such alternative to these qualifications that the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.


Skills and Abilities

Language

Must have the ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, board policy, administrative procedures/forms, and government regulations and guidelines. Must be able to complete forms, write reports, and engage in written correspondence with parents. Must have the ability to write clearly and complete lesson plans.

Computation

The individual must have the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference; and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning

Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Must be able to apply knowledge of current educational theory and instructional techniques while presenting subject matter to students.

Technology

The individual must understand basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use. Will be using district software for recording grades and finding student information.

The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active. Frequently the individual will be required to work outdoors for extended periods of time to supervise class sport activities.


Terms of employment:
Nine month contract, salary and work year to be established by the board.


Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated by the principal in accordance with provisions of district board policy.
