Department Overview
Position Summary
Interacts with all patients and their families in a pleasant, efficient and cooperative manner, exhibiting sensitivity to cultural differences. Performs blood collections in a safe, accurate and professional manner on all age groups and degrees of difficulty. Monitors patients for unexpected reactions and responds to emergency situations as required. Identifies, troubleshoots and resolves problems. Provides a variety of other services including but not limited to answering the telephone, throat culture collection, glucose tolerance testing and waived laboratory testing.
Start times: 0500, 0530, 0800, and/or 0900
Every third weekend
Both campuses
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience:
- 1 year phlebotomy experience and/or graduation from an accredited medical assistant or phlebotomy program
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Must be highly organized, efficient, and multifunctional, work independently and within a team
- Demonstrates forward thinking approach, continually looking for ways to improve processes, tools and resources to best serve the healthcare team and clients
- Must have excellent problem solving and follow-up skills
- Possesses outstanding professional and positive customer service skills
- Experience with healthcare computer information systems
- Solid knowledge of medical terminology
- Collects specimens using knowledge of laboratory techniques
- Ability to manage challenging situations in providing services to patients and families
