Full

Bath Community Hospital is a patient-focused small hospital in rural Virginia that offers excellent working conditions, a team environment, and opportunities for professional development. Under the supervision of the Clinic Medical Director or other staff physicians, the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner will provide primary health care services as a member of a health care team. Primary responsibilities relate to management of health care for pediatric patients.


RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prescribe medications and give detailed instructions for administration.
  • Prepare and administer vaccines according to the governmental vaccination plan
  • Ability to supervise non-professional staff including making recommendations for promotion, commendation, or disciplinary action where necessary or appropriate.
  • Prescribe and interpret appropriate lab tests to gain more information for possible infections or abnormalities.
  • Record and present patients’ progress in relevant charts, and pass on observations and assessment report to all healthcare team members involved, and also patients’ family for them to have a properly understanding of patients’ health condition, progress and medical needs.
  • Ability to work as a member of the health care team, and assisting in education of patients and the target community in preventive health care and health maintenance concepts.
  • Shows willingness of continued learning in order to ensure growth as a practitioner
  • Demonstrates willingness to educate patients and community in health maintenance and the role of the health care team
  • Recognizes need for referral of complex and high priority cases to the physician on duty with regard complicated diagnostic problems, serious illness, complicated therapeutic problems, reevaluation of chronic conditions, etc.
  • Examine sick children to determine their condition and ask intuitive questions to gather information about symptoms. Examine and treat injuries and refer to physicians of other disciplines when necessary (e.g. surgeons, ophthalmologists, orthopedists etc.).
  • Carryout complete or periodic health evaluations on pediatrics including medical, cognitive, and psychosocial status, as well as personal assets and shortcomings to learning.
  • Advise parents on children’s diet, exercise and disease preventive measures
  • Ability to relate well with patients and other health care personnel
REQUIREMENTS
  • In depth knowledge of children epidemiology and infectious diseases
  • Current Virginia License to practice as nurse practitioner.
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Exquisite knowledge of diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation principles and techniques
  • Up to speed knowledge of drugs/medication appropriate for children and their side-effects
