Special Information
  • This position is posted as Patient Services Assistant, which is a working title. The NAU system title for this position is Administrative Services Assistant.
  • This position is an on-site position which requires the incumbent to complete their work primarily at an NAU site, campus, or facility with or without accommodation. Opportunities for remote work are rare.

Performs varied administrative work unique to Campus Health Services requiring initiative and independent judgment. Incumbents work independently under general direction. Keeps official records and recommends administrative policies. Handles problems and non-routine situations by determining the approach or action to take and interprets guidelines, procedures, policies and practices. Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment. Incumbents may have contact with high level administrative offices requiring use of business vocabulary, tact, discretion and judgment. This position reports to the Patient Services Manager.
Patient Registration - 55%
  • Assists patients with check-in and completing appropriate paperwork.
  • Schedules patient appointments for Campus Health Services.
  • Updates confidential patient information.
  • Assists in scheduling patients who may be walking in for same-day appointments or urgent care clinic.
  • Verifies accuracy of patient's insurance information and entering in patient chart.
  • Enroll students into Louie Care and Student health insurance.
  • Assists patients with check-out and appropriate payment.
Customer Service - 35%
  • Receives and posts payments.
  • Maintains superior customer service skills.
  • Handles customer queries.
  • Screens telephone calls for Campus Health Services to include documenting messages accurately in the electronic health record.
  • Provide parking access to patients.
Administrative Support - 5%
  • Train new staff and student workers.
  • Responsible for maintenance of office equipment.
  • Provide support to staff as directed.
  • Receive, sort, and distribute mail and incoming faxes.
Other - 5%
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Environment
  • Mainly works indoors. On-site potential exposure to contagious illness and bloodborne pathogens in daily activities. Physical demands include sitting, standing, bending, and lifting of a minimum of 20 lbs. on occasion.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Degree.
  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a medical setting.
  • Four years of increasingly responsible office/administrative experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Skill in both oral and written communication.
  • Skill in operation of a variety of office machines.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Knowledge of policies, practices, procedures and terminology of assigned functions.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining good working relationships.

  • Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.

Salary
Salary range begins at $37,584. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.
FLSA Status
This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The incumbent is eligible for overtime pay or compensatory time according to University policy. Further, the employee must submit timesheets that accurately reflect all hours worked.
