Beth Israel Deaconess Milton is seeking a Patient Safety Assistant to create and maintain an environment of safety for patients at risk of injury and/or self harm by providing continuous observation of patient. Additionally, acts as a support to the health care team as needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the general management and supervision of the Nurse Manager and/or direction of the Registered Nurse, performs a variety of activities that include, but are not limited to,
- May be required to perform similar or related duties as may be necessary on an emergency basis or as designated by the department manager or supervisor.
- Participates in patient rounding as and when directed by the Registered Nurse
- Actively participates in unit-based Q.I. studies and/or unit meetings.
- Ensures clutter free environment for patient: call light within reach, clearing bedside tables to receive meals, ensuring patient’s required belongings are stored appropriately
- Considers specific cultural beliefs and practices when caring for patients. Utilizes interpreter services for patients with limited English proficiency
- Performs all duties in accordance with safety and other laws, rules and regulations as set forth by appropriate regulatory and governmental agencies and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policy and procedure.
- Restocking department supplies and precautions stations
- Assist with and/or perform transportation of patients
- Employee maintains competencies (position specific and hospital-wide) required for the specific patient population served.
- Communicates any and all changes in patient behavior to the Registered Nurse
- Direct and continuous observation of patient at a distance no greater than arm’s length from patient.
- Attends and/or participates in in-house or outside training programs to improve and augment skills and knowledge.
- Participates in Care Cart rounds
- Performs all duties in accordance with safety and other laws, rules, and regulations set forth by appropriate regulatory and government agencies and in accordance with established department and hospital policies and procedures.
- Adheres to standard precautions.
- Clean patient equipment following the designated process
- Answers call lights and ensures patient care issues are directed to the Registered Nurse
- Involved as directed with quality improvement studies and activities specific to the unit.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum Education: High School graduate/GED or equivalent
- Certification: Basic Life Support current certification required
