Patient Access Specialist I
Patient Registration- Authorization

Overview:
A highly visible full-time customer service position that is responsible for obtaining surgical and diagnostic authorizations on behalf of HSS and HSS physicians. The Patient Access Specialist is an expert in areas of customer service, registration, insurance, and HSS Standards of Care. The Patient Access Specialist is expected to score in the top 5% of measureable categories within 6 months of hire.
Responsibilities:
- Request and deliver estimates for hospital services prior to service
- Obtain authorizations for surgical and radiology procedures
- Collect payments for inpatient and ambulatory procedures
- Verify insurance and obtain benefits
- Communicate with physician offices regarding status of authorizations
Requirements:
- Two years in a healthcare or related customer service field
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; Diploma or equivalent with 1 year of experience
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Ability to multi-task
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Displays positive attitudes towards assignments and others
- Knowledge of healthcare and health insurance
- Superior written and oral communication skills
- Familiarity with medical terminology
