Parks Maintainer - This position involves the performance of skilled work in the maintenance of park grounds and the repair and installation of parks and recreation facilities and equipment. The incumbent may be in charge of one or more small work crews to ensure that the work is performed diligently and properly. The position is distinguished from Laborer by the degree of skill necessary. The work is performed under the general supervision of a Senior Parks Maintainer or Parks Maintenance Supervisor. Does related work as required.
Typical Work Activities

• Leads and participates in the trimming of trees, bushes and hedges: Assists journey level employees such as Electricians, Plumbers and Carpenters in the repair, installation and construction of recreational buildings and facilities; Repairs and paints benches; Operates power tools and motor equipment such as trucks, chain saws, gang mowers, and rototillers; Oversees the repair and maintenance of playgrounds, building facilities, tennis courts, flowerbeds and playground equipment to ensure that work is done diligently and properly.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

• Working knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, terminology and safety precautions used in the maintenance and repair of parks and recreational buildings, grounds and equipment; skill in operating motorized equipment and power tools used in the parks and recreation area; ability to instruct and direct the work of others; dependability; ability to keep simple records in the use of materials, supplies, and equipment; Ability to operate a personal computer and utilize common office software programs including word processing, spreadsheet, and database at an acceptable rate of accuracy and speed; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Minimum Qualifications
One year of experience in maintaining recreation facilities, grounds and equipment.
Special Requirements

• Possession of an appropriate Motor Vehicle Operator's license issued by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles and maintain the license during the entire length of appointment
