HIRING RANGE $66,892.80 - $89,648.00


Starting Salary May Be Adjusted Depending On Experience


  • Four (4) or more years of supervisory or managerial experience in sports, recreation or leisure or related field
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include nights, weekends, and/or holidays
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Sports, Recreation, Leisure Management or related field
  • CPR and American Red Cross or American Heart Association First Aid certifications are not required when applying but must be obtained prior to employment
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Alabama State Driver’s License and ability to obtain/maintain a City of Hoover Driver’s Permit.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems
  • Manages the collection of athletic, recreation and user fees for the Department
  • Supervises, trains, evaluates, and coordinates the work of other designated personnel
  • Master's Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Sports Management, or a related field
  • Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions
  • Interprets and applies Parks and Recreation Department guidelines and policies to personnel and the general public
  • Flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Oversees the scheduling and use of the City parks and recreation facilities
  • Responds to citizens’ questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner
  • Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, superb organizational skills and deadline driven
  • Must display high level of customer service, remain calm in challenging circumstances and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Participates in a variety of community outreach activities designed to inform the public of available Parks and Recreation programs and facilities
  • Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas
  • Develops and implements advertising marketing and promotional plans for parks and recreation programming, events and activities
  • Ensures all work positions are adequately staffed in the absence of an assigned employee
  • Performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification
  • Administers and oversees department personnel functions, including interviewing and selecting employees for hire, reviewing staff evaluations, and administering disciplinary actions as needed
  • Demonstrated ability to make routine decisions in accordance with laws ordinances, regulations, established policies and departmental procedures
  • Supervise all recreation programs operations and activities, including program planning, implementation and coordination and supervision of related support personnel
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with local schools, civic organizations, social groups and the general public
  • Addresses complaints or problems from the general public and takes appropriate action to ensure a timely resolution or customer satisfaction
  • Oversees the fiscal administration functions of the Department, including budget preparation and management
  • Ability to manage capital projects for the Department
