Job Description
Description

Under the general supervision of the Department Director and Lead Park Ranger, the employee is responsible for performing a wide variety of tasks in the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and patrol of the City parks and recreation facilities. The incumbent is responsible for the safety and security of parks, facilities, and patrons. The incumbent will report to the Lead Park Ranger. This position will be assigned to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Provides customer service and acts as a source of information and assistance to inform the public of park information, rules, regulations, laws, ordinances, and municipal codes.

Examples of Duties

Salary Range $19.06 - $29.55

  • Corrects and/or reports any conditions that involve damage, theft, vandalism, or hazard.
  • Renders First Aid and/or CPR when necessary.
  • Directs vehicle and boat traffic inside park boundaries, and aids motorists and boaters as required.
  • Assists in the recovery of lost children and property.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Patrols Park facilities for unsafe and deteriorating conditions in the City of Deerfield Beach parks and facilities
  • Inspects buildings, and facilities located in parks for safety and vandalism.
  • Ensures that park and recreation areas and facilities are secured.
  • Completes incident reports and other routine documentation.
  • Provides customer service and acts as a source of information and assistance to inform the public of park information, rules, regulations, laws, ordinances, and municipal codes, enforcing applicable ordinances.
  • Issues notices of park exclusions for violations and determines the need for and calls for police assistance.
  • Educates Park visitors on park amenities, safety rules, and regulations
  • Anticipates and solves problems and/or provides reports to appropriate agency

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of Park Ranger and/or related customer service experience.
Valid Florida Driver’s license and an acceptable driving history (must remain valid throughout employment).
CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire).
Ability to swim.

  • Must be available to work any assigned shift/any assigned area
  • Skill in handling conflict and uncertain situations
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities
  • Skill in data analysis and problem-solving
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with city employees and the public

Physical Demands
The physical demands involve driving, manual dexterity, hearing, near acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, standing, talking, and walking

Work Environment
The worker may be exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

Work Hours
Monday-Sunday, shifts will vary between the hours of 5:30am-9:00pm (nights, weekend and holiday hours as required)

City employees are subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situations and are expected to perform emergency service duties as assigned.
