Job Description
The Parent-to-Parent Coordinator oversees the functions of the statewide evidence-based program that brings together parents facing similar challenges in raising their children with special needs. The Parent-to-Parent Coordinator facilitates supportive connections through telephone contact between parents seeking support and volunteer support parents (with a special emphasis on working with parents of young children), works with our Regional Coordinators to identify parents to participate in the volunteer support program, and provides regional trainings throughout the state for support (mentor) parents. This is a 30 hr/week hybrid position, offering a competitive salary and benefits. Office is located at 529 Main Street, Suite 1M3, Boston, MA. The P2P coordinator


reports to the Family TIES Director.


Primary Responsibilities


Match Process


Make telephone contact with parents within 48 hours of seeking support through the Parent-to-Parent Program, determining the specific areas of need which will be addressed through the matching process. Expedite matches as quickly as possible.


Facilitate matches, through accurate records of trained volunteer support parents, to provide optimal contacts for parents seeking support.



  • Refer parents to Regional Coordinators when additional resources may be needed.



  • Responsible for data collection and record-keeping of trainings and matches through the use of an QuickBase database program.


    Listening & Learning Trainings


    Collaborate with the Program Director to maintain an effective training curriculum for Support Parents, providing updates when necessary and assuring availability of training packets in various languages, when needed.


    Work cooperatively with the Regional Coordinators and Early Intervention’s Regional Consultation Program (RCP) to identify parents who are willing to participate as volunteer Support Parents.


    Develop a schedule for regular trainings throughout the state, with assistance from the Regional Coordinators, and offer trainings to potential volunteer Support Parents.


    Offer training and assistance in ways that are accessible for all parents, including those who are non-English speakers or who have limited English proficiency.


    Additional Responsibilities



  • Assist in planning and staffing the Federation’s


    annual conference, as well as gather national and statewide parent-to-parent resource


    materials for this event.


    Attend Family TIES and Federation staff meetings, Federation


    health cluster meetings, and other meetings as requested by the Program


    Director. Act as the liaison to P2P USA.


    Work in collaborative roles with staff of the Early Intervention and Regional Specialty programs, Early Intervention Parent Leadership Project, DPH Care Coordination Program, DPH Regional Consultation Program (RCP), Federation Project staff, and with peers in parent-to-parent programs.



  • Maintain the P2P webpages on the Family TIES website.


    Other duties as requested by Family TIES Program Director.


    Qualifications For The Position


    Parent of a child with special health needs and /or disabilities


    Minimum Bachelor’s degree (experience may be substituted for education)


    Two years paid and/or volunteer experience providing support and information to parents


    Strong communication, interpersonal skills, training, and public speaking skills


    Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others


    Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook), WordPress, QuickBase, Canva or ability to learn


    Knowledge of community resources


    Ability to work occasional weekends and evening and to travel to meetings within the state·


    Possess a current & valid Massachusetts motor vehicle operator’s license and have access to a car·


    Bi-lingual skills a plus
