Hours per day: 8.0
Salary Level: $40.87 - Hourly wage is based off of 61% of the State of Washington's Prevailing Wage Rates for Pierce County for each craft's applicable prevailing wage.
Examples Of Duties
This position performs a variety of tasks related to the interior and exterior painting of District buildings and athletic facilities.
Essential Job Functions
  • Maintains equipment and tools in good condition.
  • Paints surfaces using brushes, spray gun, or paint rollers and other applicators.
  • Tapes, muds, and plasters as necessary to repair sheetrock or lathe and plaster surfaces.
  • Applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and other structures.
  • Applies game lines, handicap logos, or other markings to a variety of surfaces such as basketball courts, tetherball or four square areas, or parking stalls as directed.
  • Applies water sealers to exterior of buildings.
  • Selects premixed paints, or mixes required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint that matches specified colors.
  • Maintains files to include information and drawings regarding surfaces and paint colors, tints, and manufacturer information for all school facilities.
  • Applies fiberglass repairs as required using required materials and gel coats.
  • Applies urethanes, epoxies and other specialized paint products as needed for cement surfaces.
  • Applies paint as needed in athletic facilities i.e., track numbers, starting zones, basketball courts, pickle ball or volleyball courts as directed.
  • Smooths surfaces using sandpaper, brushes, or steel wool, and removes old paint from surfaces using paint remover, scraper, wire brush, pressure washing or blowtorch to prepare surfaces for painting.
Other Job Duties
  • Obeys all safety policies including but not limited to all District safety policies requiring the inspection of vehicles and equipment for system safety operation prior to operation; fall restraint policy.
  • Related job duties as assigned.
CONDITIONS
May work in confined areas or on scaffolding or ladders; required to work outdoors in inclement weather; work requires exposure to hazardous materials including chemicals (working with flammable materials), fumes, dirt dust and unpleasant odors; exposure to loud noises and machinery with moving parts; may be required to lift up to fifty pounds of materials or equipment; travel to district sites required.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
High school graduation or equivalent and Five years’ work experience with painting contractor as journeyman painter, or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work.
Allowable Substitution
Completion of approved apprenticeship within the painter’s trades may substitute for the above requirement.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Knowledge of all types of paints, varnish, stains, enamel, lacquer, water sealers, primers, specialty coatings
Knowledge of all types of applicators for paints such as sprayers, rollers, brushes.
Knowledge of sheetrock repairs, texturing, popcorn ceilings, lathe and plaster repairs.
Knowledge of fiberglass repairs and gel coats.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Ability to work and maintain relationships with other trades and other department personnel.
Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to the work. Ability to work from ladders, lifts, scaffolds.
Ability to bend, squat, lift, stoop, climb and reach.
Ability to demonstrate reasonable, reliable and regular attendance.
Ability to work as an effective team member.
Ability to read, understand, and follow safety procedures.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people in a multi-cultural, diverse socio-economic setting.
Licenses/Special Requirements
Valid Washington State driver’s license.
Fingerprints and successful WSP and FBI background clearance/sexual misconduct clearance.
