Primary Purpose

Provides leadership to professional and support staff for treatment and education of patients for the expedition of recovery, early discharge and return to independence.

Minimum Specifications

Education
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited four year Occupational Therapy school; –OR– must be a graduate of an accredited two year Master's degree program in Occupational Therapy (MOT).

Experience
  • Must have two years of experience to include one year of experience in a specific physical disability.
Equivalent Education and/or Experience

Certification/Registration/Licensure
  • Must have current licensure with the Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners for Texas, or have temporary licensure in Texas. Completion of Texas licensure is required within six months of receiving a temporary licensure.
  • Must have current registration as an Occupational Therapist by the National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). Completion of NBCOT is required within six months if being hired with a temporary licensure.
  • Must have a current Healthcare Provider CPR course completion card prior to hire and/or placement in job.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, families, and hospital staff.
  • Must be able to be flexible and adaptable to frequent changes in the work environment.
  • Must be able to demonstrate problem-solving ability.
  • Must be able to demonstrate leadership ability.
  • Must have familiarity with personal computers, word processor and spreadsheet software.

Responsibilities
1. Evaluates patients thoroughly and defines deficits according to rehab principles. Plans, implements, and adapts treatments using various therapy techniques and devices as appropriate to restore, reinforce, and enhance patients’ performance. Provides education to patients and family members to facilitate participation and improvement.
2. Provides timely documentation on patient’s status and progress according to established guidelines. Maintains all necessary records and reports ensuring timely entry and accuracy of data.
3. Maintains a positive working relationship with other staff to ensure coordination and provision of quality patient care.
4. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals and mission of Parkland.
5. Consistently maintains knowledge of work process updates in a timely manner. Completes required training and ensures departmental requirements are met by the designated deadlines. Takes responsibility for own professional growth and development by attending seminars and workshops, reading professional journals, and maintaining current licensure as a therapist. Integrates knowledge gained into the clinical setting.
6. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the therapy area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable state/federal laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.
