Position Summary:

Our OSP supervisor is a hands-on, direct supervisor responsible for planning, directing, and organizing the team’s day to day operations. This role oversees underground fiber installation projects of various sizes and scopes of work, while working with, growing, and mentoring a team of OSP construction technicians and fiber splicers. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, knowledge of the telecom industry, and an influential focus on the safety and the well-being of each team member. As an OSP leader, some project management of residential projects including assessment, surveys, and scheduling is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for administration, training, and development of all field personnel, including hiring, mentoring, evaluating, and performance improvement.
  • Respond to the needs of a 24/7/365 operation, when necessary.
  • Troubleshoot systems as necessary to define root cause and break-fix alternatives.
  • Clear understanding of fiber design, splicing matrix sheets and documentation requirements and ability to communicate that understanding.
  • Serve as on-call management and respond to end-to-end OSP needs in the event of a service impairment or outage.
  • Ensure system compliance to NCTA, FCC regulations and IQ Fiber’s minimum operating specifications.
  • Manage contract resources as necessary to supplement project needs.
  • Responsible for meeting QC standards as well as budgetary requirements.
  • Ensure constant compliance with OSHA safety standards.
  • Manage and coordinate outside plant construction using both in-house and contract resources to accomplish assigned projects.
  • Coordinate field survey of existing or proposed outside plant installations including aerial and underground network facilities and associated infrastructure.
  • Lead and model effective troubleshooting systems as necessary in the restoration of plant issues.
  • Liaise with other departments as necessary to maintain an in-depth technical knowledge of new technology being deployed.

Job Qualifications:

  • Remain in a state of readiness to handle call issues when on call. Readiness includes being in the local market, being in a state of mind to perform service and having company provided communications equipment ready to receive calls.
  • Knowledge of Excel and Word.
  • Computer skills to sufficient to process trouble tickets.
  • Must pass pre-employment and compulsory drug screening.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Must be able to work emergency schedules during natural disasters and network outages.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a fiber construction environment.
  • Advanced knowledge in underground and aerial construction techniques.
  • Must be able to pass standard background check.
  • Must be able to work after hours and weekends. Remain in service during outages until resolved.
  • You must have close vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust your focus with good hand-eye coordination.
  • Must have valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s license.
  • Bachelor's or Associate degree in engineering, or a related technical field preferred.
  • Proficient knowledge of optical networks.
