Department Overview:
OHSU Casey Eye Institute is a premier academic medical center providing eye care for adults and children in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. The purpose of this position is to provide diagnostic ophthalmic imaging services in a clinical setting to include diagnostic B-scan, diagnostic A-scan, immersion A-scan, Biometry, and UBM. This is a full-time- benefited, non-remote position.
Function/Duties of Position:
Performs a wide variety of diagnostic ultrasound procedures to include both A scan, B scan, UBM, and biometry and provides preliminary findings in a structured report. Provides training and instruction to Residents, Fellows, Medical Students, and Visiting Scholars.

Co-Coordinate the ultrasound program, including the development of training materials. Monitor the Ultrasound program to assure compliance to current standards. Keep abreast of current ophthalmic echography techniques, processes, and equipment to endure program is current and state of the art.

Compliance expectation: Performs requirements for Staff Members as outlined in Compliance Roles and Responsibilities in OHSU Hospitals and Clinics. Carry out job responsibilities in an ethical, effective, and professional manner. Report potential compliance problems using the reporting processes as outlines in the Code of Conduct. Model ethical and appropriate behavior, professional standards, compliance, and personal integrity. Understand and comply with the Code of Conduct, OHSU and departmental policies and procedures, applicable rules, regulations, etc. Assures departmental compliance will all applicable third party payer regulations and contracts.

Customer Service: Provides high quality customer service to patients, OHSU faculty and referring providers, to include PCPs and their office staff, insurance providers in requesting referrals, and co-workers and staff as well as setting an example in training new employees. Maintains a high standard of patient interactions skills and is exemplary in addressing patient complaints when necessary.

Skills Maintenance: Participate in continuing education courses and activities. Demonstrate competence in all required skills during yearly skills evaluation. Assist with maintenance and training of staff providing ophthalmic care at Casey in the clinical and research settings. This includes but is not limited to conducting annual skills evaluations and working 1:1 with staff
Required Qualifications:
Five years experience performing Ultrasound/Echography procedures; OR A Bachelor’s degree in a Health Science or a field directly related to the position, plus 1 year experience or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience along with considerable knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in ophthalmic ultrasound.; OR An Associate’s degree in a Health Science or related field, plus three years’ experience or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience along with considerable knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in ophthalmic ultrasound.

BLS certification through American Heart Association (AHA), provider level required at time of hire. Initial certification is the responsibility of the employee. Renewal certification classes/cost provided by OHSU if job required.

Demonstrated ability to use clinical diagnostic equipment. Must be detail oriented and possess excellent interpersonal and patient relations skills. Ability to multi-task and delegate workload is essential. Strong skills and background with clinic operations including scheduling systems, and inventory control.

Proficiency with computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and related computer applications.

Excellent communication skills, professional demeanor, excellent organizational skills. Exceptional interpersonal skills - patient advocacy skills - evaluate patient concerns for timely resolution. Sensitivity to patient needs. Ability to work independently as well as in a teamwork model. Willingness to serve as a positive and professional role model. Must have demonstrated record of reliable attendance, punctuality and proven successful performance in past and present.
Preferred Qualifications:
ARRT or ARDMS or Certified Diagnostic Ophthalmic Sonographer (CDOS) is preferred.
