Statement of Job


To manage the production, quality assurance, sanitation, safety, and production planning operations of the Burley plant to accomplish required production within approved operating budgets and quality/sanitation guidelines and to provide positive and proactive leadership to all cost, quality, sanitation, and safety improvement efforts.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Solicit, review, implement, and promote process and product quality
  • Plan, implement, and monitor manufacturing operations to meet scheduled production volume requirements.

  • Plan Manufacturing Department activities to achieve the overall Plant goals and Company mission.
  • Identify and coordinate training opportunities for all department employees.
  • To develop Departmental employee relations by continuing communications of all information effecting them and through the conducting of departmental safety meetings so as to develop a safe and healthful working attitude.

The incumbent works closely with each member of the Plant Manager’s Staff. In particular, the incumbent maintains very high level of communications and coordination with the Field Department Manager, Plant Services Manager, the Human Resources Manager, Engineering Manager, and Health & Safety Manager and their respective subordinates. The incumbent also maintains a high degree of rapport and communications with Company departments including Production Planning and Inventory Control, Quality Assurance, Research and Development, Marketing, Sales, and Engineering as well as maintaining a high level of coordination with external customers and suppliers.


This position is accountable to manage all production, production planning, quality assurance, and sanitation operations of the Burley plant. The position is accountable for receiving raw product, converting raw product into finished product, packaging finished product, and delivering finished product to the NewCold warehouse while controlling all direct and indirect department budgets.


This position is accountable for ensuring that all finished product meets established quality requirements, that the plant continually meets all sanitation, foreign material, microbiological control guidelines, adherence to statistical process control, and hazard analysis and critical control point (HACCP), as well as USDA, FDA, and other inspection agency requirements. The safety, well being, and effectiveness of all human resources is a prime responsibility while meeting these accountabilities.


The nature of this position requires that the incumbent display the ability to create positive working relationships and to involve others in working collectively toward achievement of department and plant goals. Through outstanding coaching, training, communications, problem solving, leadership, and recognition this individual creates a focus for others in creating and maintaining a continuous improvement environment.

SPC Responsibilities


  • As a member of the leadership team at the facility, your participation in the continuous improvement process is expected. This includes taking an active role in process improvement initiatives, employee training and upgrading your current skill base.


EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE


Education: Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university or three to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Experience: Three to four years production experience in a food processing plant in a significant role.
