Job Description

The Operations Manager will serve as part of the leadership team to develop, plan, and optimize the organization to hit targets at all levels. The Operations Manager will also contribute to the execution of the overall business strategy and achievement of plant and business objectives.


Operations Manager Responsibilities:

  • Provide development plans for shift leaders.
  • Facilitate group involvement and lead group decision-making.
  • Actively lead and build effective work teams and committees to increase plant performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Focus on Quality Management System & Daily Management System.
  • Ensure coordinated communication and direction across all shifts and through leadership.
  • Effectively communicate and work towards achieving all safety goals throughout the Operations Department to support and enforce a strong safety culture. Drive continuous improvement in the areas of safety and housekeeping.
  • Develop and maintain a positive labor/management relationship with a passion for developing and coaching people.
  • Communicate financial and statistical data in a manner that the employees can understand and use the information to improve operations.
  • Lead a lean culture environment through six sigma processes and TPM methodologies.
  • Maximize productivity and cost effectiveness to meet plant business plan including operating within the fiscal year’s budget, contributing to annual and long-term capital planning process, and leading equipment modifications and improvement projects.
  • Ensure shift leaders are competent, united and leading operations as a group.
  • Provide ongoing operations statistical updates to lead team and employees.
  • Determining organizational objectives and priorities in support of the plant’s strategy and vision, and for developing teams to deliver results in support of these objectives and priorities; leaving daily tactical direction to Production Supervision/Lead Persons.
  • Establish clear and measurable expectations of performance and review commitments to ensure goals are achieved.
  • Develop and lead strategic business plans with accountability for delivering plant performance metrics.
  • Partner with peers, product engineers, etc. to clearly understand customer’s FFU’s and constantly meet/exceed customer expectations.
  • Assign and coordinate the work in a manufacturing department to include supervising first line leaders and analyze productivity performance.
  • Support cultural changes and efforts to move the culture forward in training, employee involvement, hiring standards, evaluations, corrective actions.
  • Facilitate process improvements through people deployment, productivity enhancements, high performance work teams and being a model for change.


Operations Manager Requirements:

  • Able to influence and/or lead negotiations, develop/manage the information and communication in discussions effectively and position for a positive solution.
  • Knows how to effectively develop business cases and engage leaders at all levels in taking appropriate action.
  • Can think strategically, execute a chosen direction and deliver results
  • 3-5 years of experience leading in a production control environment.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Lean Certification strongly preferred.
  • Able to teach and communicate in simple, impactful terms.
  • Bachelors in Operations, Business, or Engineering.
  • Experience leading continuous improvement initiatives in a manufacturing environment.
  • TPM experience strongly preferred.
