Post of duty: Washington, DC

About this position

CAN is the Country Department responsible for leading strategic dialogue and programming with Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela, following up on the implementation of the Bank's program and work with these countries. The Department is also responsible for promoting and coordinating dialogue on regional initiatives.

The CAN Front-Office operational team currently requires consulting services to contribute to: (i) quality assurance and follow-up on program preparation; (ii) monitoring portfolio execution and performance; (iii) collecting and disseminating results and lessons learned on operational issues; and (iv) ensuring the integration of best execution practices in the design of new operations and country strategies. In addition, the Front Office requires support in the preparation and monitoring of the Department's work program, and in the preparation, review, and analysis of operational and non-operational corporate documents.

CAN Operational Team. Supports the CAN operational team in other program and operational portfolio related activities, country strategies and knowledge activities, as needed.

What you’ll do:

Operational Program Follow -up

  • Contributes to the programming processes led by the Country Manager and Country Representatives.
  • Contributes to the preparation of Country Programming Documents (CPD), ensuring their quality, consistency, and alignment with the objectives of the priority sectors of the country strategy and corporate goals.
  • Reviews and provides feedback during project design (ERM, QRR), with emphasis on execution schedules operation “readiness” and effectiveness.

Follow-up pf the operation portfolio

  • Reviews the status of the loan portfolio and disbursement progress, providing early warning to Management on operational risks identified in the development of these activities.
  • Prepares inputs and participates in portfolio review and dialogue conducted in CAN countries.
  • Contributes to the development and follow-up of agreements reached in interdepartmental portfolio review meetings (5*1).
  • Reviews Project Completion Reports (PCRs) on behalf of Management, emphasizing lessons learned and experiences that can be incorporated into the new operations design.

Country strategies

  • Contribute to the preparation of country strategies by ensuring consideration of relevant lessons learned and implementation issues in them.

Generation of strategic information, communication, and dissemination of knowledge.

  • Provide input to annual reports of operational activities, presentations, and analytical documents under Management's responsibility, including input to corporate documents.
  • Prepare country briefings and presentations at the request of the Bank's Senior Management.

Planning

  • Supports the process of defining the work program, goals, and indicators of the Management in operational matters and monitors compliance with the defined goals and commitments.

Prepares inputs on operational results for different institutional instances.

What you'll need

  • Education: Master's degree in economics, international relations, business administration or related field.
  • Experience: A minimum of six years of experience in activities related to project management, as well as knowledge of policies for the formulation, processing and monitoring of public sector operations, knowledge of related processes in CAN countries is a plus. Direct experience with IDB operations and systems, or equivalent institution, and monitoring/accompanying project execution is considered indispensable.
  • Languages: Oral and written fluency in Spanish and English.

Requirements:

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
