Johnson County Mental Health is looking for a qualified applicant to fill the position of an On-Call Behavioral Health Specialist (BHS) position for the Crisis Recovery Center & Adult Detox Unit in Shawnee, KS. This position is responsible for a variety of functions to help support this 24-hour program, providing integrated services to adults suffering from severe mental illness and substance use disorders. Job functions include crisis intervention, support, monitoring and prompting for activities of daily living. The Behavioral Health Specialist must be knowledgeable of basic mental health and recovery concepts. This position is eligible for a shift differential specific to overnight hours($1.50/hr), weekend hours ($0.75/hr), and evening hours ($0.75/hr). Job will remain posted until filled.
Job duties include the following:
- Participates in meetings related to care coordination; completes documentation for direct services provided to ensure timely and accurate completion.
- Provides guidance and support to enable productive lives of individuals; assists individual and family members to identify strategies or treatment options and participates in the development and modification of plans to regain ability to make independent choices and promote coping skills; develops and maintains a positive and effective relationship with service recipients, families, and other service providers.
- Transports individuals receiving services to appointments, activities, and/or work.
- Provides, assists with, or coaches individuals on personal care needs with limited supervision; provides crisis interventions, including physical intervention and restraint to ensure the safety of individuals; monitors individuals while they take medication as prescribed; monitors and documents mental and physical condition of individuals.
High School diploma or equivalent and one year of experience working in a human services field are required.
Experience in a related field is preferred.
Education can substitute for experience.
Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.
Physical, Environmental, and Special Working Conditions:
All County employees may be called upon to assist other departments/agencies in a declared emergency situation.
