Job Description
Duties


The Office of Equity and Investment Funds (OEIF) addresses the dearth of risk capital in emerging and frontier markets by providing direct equity financing to companies or financing to private equity and other fund vehicles investing in developing economies. DFC seeks to help profit-oriented enterprises in the emerging markets access risk capital, management guidance, and financial expertise by supporting private enterprise and fund managers.


Interns Perform a Variety Of Tasks, Including


  • Assisting with research and analysis for the DFC General Call for Proposals;
  • Preparing written reports on portfolio investment funds and companies;
  • Analyzing and reviewing materials on venture capital/private equity funds and companies;
  • Researching new financial structures and investment vehicles;
  • Designing and modifying financial models;


Interns may also complete a strategic research project focusing on the following within the realm of emerging markets private equity:


  • Performance of funds and market trends in specific regions and countries;
  • Analysis of DFC's private equity portfolio; and
  • Assessment of investment strategies.
Projects will culminate in a presentation and written output, incorporating intern's original findings and recommendations. Interns are expected to take the initiative and play a substantive role in defining the parameters of research alongside the direction of the supervisor.

  • U.S. Citizenship is required
  • Must be actively enrolled (at least part-time) in an accredited college or university
  • Must be suitable for Federal employment, determined by background investigation


Qualifications


Applicants must be U.S. citizens enrolled at least part-time in an accredited institution of higher education pursuing a degree (minimum of 60 credit hours) in Business, Economics and Finance, or be enrolled in an MBA program. Previous experience in investment banking, private equity, accounting, or finance with exposure in financial modeling, research and communication skills is highly desired. Successful completion of a background investigation is also required.


Education


Applicants must be enrolled at least part-time in an accredited college or university in a relevant graduate degree program. The ideal candidate should have a graduate level academic concentration in business, international affairs/development, economics, or finance.

Pass/Fail Courses


If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim of superior academic achievement must be based upon class standing or membership in an honor society.


GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.


FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
