Job Description

Summary

MUSC Health - Orangeburg is seeking a highly skilled Occupational Therapist/Occupational Therapy Assistant to join our hospital's orthopedic and neurological rehabilitation team. This position primarily focuses on orthopedic conditions with a secondary emphasis on neurological conditions. The ideal candidate holds an Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) and possesses strong clinical expertise in orthopedic and neurological rehabilitation. However, we will also consider exceptional Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs). As an integral part of our interdisciplinary team, you will work closely with providers, patients, and their families to deliver evidence-based therapy interventions, promote functional independence, and enhance patients' quality of life.

  • 2. Develop individualized treatment plans that address patients' specific goals, functional abilities, and condition severity, with a primary focus on orthopedic conditions and a secondary emphasis on neurological conditions. 3. Implement evidence-based occupational therapy interventions, including therapeutic activities, exercises, adaptive equipment training, and environmental modifications, to enhance patients' functional abilities and independence. 4. Provide skilled therapy services to address patients' orthopedic impairments, such as post-surgical rehabilitation, musculoskeletal injuries, and joint replacements. 5. Deliver neurological rehabilitation services to patients with conditions such as stroke, spinal cord injuries, and multiple sclerosis, focusing on improving motor skills, coordination, and sensory integration. 6. Educate patients and their families on adaptive techniques, energy conservation strategies, and home exercise programs to promote independence and facilitate sustained recovery. 7. Utilize specialized equipment and assistive devices to support patients in achieving their therapeutic goals. 8. Monitor patients' progress, document treatment outcomes, and modify treatment plans as necessary to optimize functional outcomes. 9. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including providers, nurses, physical therapists, and speech therapists, to coordinate patient care and ensure a comprehensive approach to rehabilitation. 10. Adhere to infection control protocols, safety procedures, and ethical standards during patient care. 11. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of evaluations, progress notes, treatment plans, and outcomes in compliance with hospital and regulatory guidelines. 12. Stay updated with advancements in orthopedic and neurological rehabilitation research, evidence-based practices, and treatment modalities. 13. Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and professional development activities to enhance clinical knowledge and skills. 14. Provide guidance and supervision to occupational therapy assistants or other support staff as assigned. 15. Work within the scope of an Occupational Therapist or Occupational Therapy Assistant depending on the particular candidate. Occupational Therapists are able and expected to evaluate patients who self-refer. Qualifications: 1.a. Occupational Therapist: Master's or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program. Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) preferred. 1.b. Occupational Therapy Assistant: At least an Associate's degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program. 2. Current licensure or eligibility to practice as an Occupational Therapist/Occupational Therapy Assistant in South Carolina. 3. Previous experience working as an Occupational Therapist/Occupational Therapy Assistant, preferably with exposure to orthopedic and neurological conditions is preferred but new grads are welcome. 4. Strong clinical skills in assessing and treating orthopedic conditions, such as post-surgical rehabilitation, musculoskeletal injuries, and joint replacements. 5. Familiarity with neurological conditions, including stroke, spinal cord injuries, and multiple sclerosis. 6. Knowledge of evidence-based occupational therapy interventions, adaptive equipment, and environmental modifications. 7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with providers, patients, and interdisciplinary teams. 8. Proficient in documentation and record-keeping practices, ensuring compliance with hospital and regulatory guidelines. 9.   • 1. Collaborate with providers to evaluate and assess patients with orthopedic and neurological conditions, reviewing medical histories and conducting occupational therapy assessments.

Additional

For OT's, at least a Bachelor's degree. Masters or OTD preferred.

For COTA's, experience with splints and hand therapy preferred
