Texas Children's first health care location in Austin, Texas Children's Urgent Care West Gate, opened in March 2018, providing high quality pediatric-focused care after hours and on weekends. There are now more than 10 Texas Children's Pediatric primary care practices in the greater Austin area bringing world-class pediatric services to children and their families. Our Specialty Care Center in Austin includes a multidisciplinary group of pediatric specialists committed to providing comprehensive care across a wide spectrum of services, including allergy and immunology, cardiology, ophthalmology, rheumatology, pulmonology, neurology, and more. Texas Children's also plans to build a 360,000-square-foot freestanding hospital for children and women, set to open in 2024.

Summary:

We are searching for an Occupational Therapist - someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you'll plan, evaluate, organize, and implement occupational therapy treatment programs in a developmentally and age-appropriate mann

Qualifications:

  • 5 years' pediatric and/or clinical experience preferred
  • Preferred experience in pediatric inpatient and outpatient settings, including Inpatient Intensive Care Units (NICU, PICU/CICU)
  • Pediatric experience with hand/orthopedics
  • Evidence-based evaluation and treatment methods
  • Patients range in age from infancy to adolescents
  • Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy required
  • Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any booster dose(s) of the COVID-19 vaccine recommended by the Centers for Disease Control when eligible, is required for all employees at Texas Children's, unless approved for a medical or religious exemption
  • OT certification required
  • Position will require treatment of outpatient occupational therapy in developmental populations as well

Responsibilities:
  • Recommend appropriate adaptive equipment and/or termination of treatment when appropriate
  • Collaborate with the clinic/program team to assess the need for clinical support
  • Participate in ongoing communication and collaboration with other members of the patient's interdisciplinary care team
  • Manage the schedule effectively to maintain productivity expectations
  • Develop measurable long-term and short-term goals
  • Develop an individualized plan of care based on evaluation findings
  • Complete patient evaluations and reassessments in accordance with hospital and department guidelines
  • Assess patient and family needs regarding their level of understanding, readiness to learn, ability to assimilate information, and the most desirable method of teaching
  • Monitor patient response to treatment intervention
  • Ensure patient authorization prior to providing therapy treatment
  • Develop and instruct the patient and family for appropriate home treatment programs
