Job Description

Full Time, Days. 36 hours/week.

Pay Range is between $20.16 - $30.24/hr, depending on years of relevant and like experience. +$2.50/hr for weekend shifts.

POSITION SUMMARY

Assists in the planning, implementation and evaluation of all indirect patient care activities. Provides direct patient care functions to the antepartal, intrapartal and immediate postpartal patient under the direction of the RN. Assists the RN in the care of the surgical patient by the performance of routine and delegated duties. Assist the anesthesia personnel through indirect means to enhance the quality of the practice of the anesthesia department. Ages of patients service include neonate, adolescent and adult. Interacts in a respectful manner, considerate of age and physical abilities, and provides assistance to individuals in a manner that takes into account their special needs or age related needs.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education or Formal Training

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • CNA certification or 5+ years of relevant experience required. Equivalent certifications include: EMT, MA, Military Medic or completion of 1st year of nursing core classes (not prerequisites for nursing school).

Special Qualifications (Licensure, Registration, Etc.)

  • BLS required within 3 months of hire.
  • Certified Surgical Tech required within 90 days of hire.

Knowledge, Skill and Ability

  • Basic knowledge of asepsis and sterile technique.
  • Demonstrated physical and mental ability to apply procedures and standards to clinical practice.
  • Basic knowledge of frequently used medical terminologies.
  • Clerical aptitude and basic computer skills.
  • Venipuncture.

Experience

Hospital or other health care experience preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assesses requirements for indirect patient care activities and sets priorities for implementation.
  • Demonstrates competence in performing aseptic and sterile technique procedures and identifies rationale underlying the skill.
  • May be required to perform point of care testing. May be a point of care trainer.
  • Demonstrates proper cleaning, restocking and setup of patient rooms, PACU or O.R.
  • Assures proper stock levels are maintained in all patient care areas and supply carts.
  • Demonstrates compliance to department, division and hospital policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Demonstrates proper cleaning and care of instruments and equipment.
  • Performs basic maintenance and safety checks on anesthesia machines and other anesthesia related equipment.
