Scope of Position:

Nursing informatics is the combination of information science, computer science, and clinical science designed to assist in the management and processing of data, information and knowledge to support the practice and delivery of clinical care. It is a multidisciplinary scientific endeavor of analyzing, formalizing and modeling how nurses collect and manage data, process data into information and knowledge, make knowledge-based decisions and inferences for patient care, and use this empirical and experiential knowledge in order to broaden the scope and enhance the quality of their professional practice. The scientific methods central to nursing informatics are focused on:
Position Summary:

Assists in the planning and standardization of nursing data and content related to the clinical transformation process. Participates in the analysis, documentation and redesign of nursing workflows, methodologies and practices to enhance patient care and further the overall nursing practice within the organization. Participates in all nursing informatics activities in support of interdisciplinary clinical practice, nursing decision making, education, quality, and research initiatives and standards. Conducts and coordinates clinical measurement initiatives to assure accurate reporting and analysis of quality and utilization indicators. Participates in current state mapping and future state workflow development. Maximizes clinical information applications and methodologies to achieve the best clinical outcomes and works with nurses and clinicians to optimize use of patient flow, forecasting and acuity tools. Responsible for data collection, statistical analysis, and documentation preparation for nursing operations throughout the organization. Examines current nursing processes and practices; identifies areas that require improvements and recommends priorities based on HIPAA and governmental guidelines. Assists in the planning and implementation of process improvement projects within the organizations nursing departments. In addition, the Nursing Informatics Analyst understands the clinical documentation needs of Registered Nurses and other clinical disciplines within the inpatient setting and provides leadership in using nursing informatics tools as facilitators of evidence-based practice, patient safety and error avoidance.


Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in nursing required, Master's degree in nursing or related field preferred. Six years of experience in nursing and/or 2 years of experience in nursing informatics along with evidence of progressive leadership preferred. Previous experience with health care information systems and PC based software applications (spreadsheets, data base management, word processing, etc.) is preferred. Certification in Informatics is preferred.
