Heartland Care Center is a community-owned, non-profit nursing home facility located in Marcus, Iowa that offers a large range of nursing care, including long-term care, hospice care, skilled (rehabilitation) nursing care, and assisted living. Heartland Care Center has a committed Board of Directors that meets regularly to oversee the management of the facility and enjoys an affiliation with Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

POSITION SUMMARY: As a Nursing Home Administrator, you will oversee the total day-to-day operations of your facility in accordance with the current federal, state, and local government regulations that govern residential care facilities. This exciting role is responsible for developing effective operational strategy and directing the team to assure residents receive the consistently high-quality care we are committed to delivering.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field

License/Registration/Certification:

  • Required: NIMS ICS 100, 200, & 700 Certification or within six months of hire
  • Required: BLS
  • Required: Current and valid Iowa Driver’s License
  • Required: Iowa license as Nursing Home Administrator (LNHA)

Experience:

  • Preferred: Management/Supervisory experience
  • Preferred: 2+ years as Licensed Nursing Home Administrator in a LTC, SNF, Sub-Acute, or similar setting

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents and their family members, and at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to develop and follow an operating budget for the department.
  • Ability to adapt to flexible work schedules and frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to react decisively and quickly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to lead and supervise professional and administrative staff and work cooperatively as a member of a team.
  • Highly developed problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize to meet deadlines on daily work and special projects.
  • Knowledge of state regulations for both acute and skilled nursing centers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Implements policies established by Organization; leads the formation of policies and reports on implementation of policies related to the care center.
  • Reviews operating results of the organization, compare them to established objectives, and take steps to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to correct unsatisfactory results.
  • Makes routine rounds throughout the center to assure that an optimum level of resident care is provided: the environment is being maintained in a safe and sanitary fashion, systems are in place, and that employees are appropriately attired and receiving appropriate supervisions.
  • Ensures the center maintains accreditation, licensing, and quality resident care through the establishment of quality/performance improvement monitoring programs and standards.
  • Develops an annual budget to show the expected revenue and operational expenditures.
  • Develops, establishes, and maintains resident census at optimal levels
  • Participates in public relations and marketing plans and programs.
  • Ensures contractual agreements are approved.
  • Coordinates with the Board of Directors and hospital leadership on a strategic plan that reflects the center’s mission statement and is in accordance with ethics and goals of the organization.
  • Presents reports reflecting the services and financial activities of the center and other required special reports.
  • Supervises the business affairs of the center to ensure that funds are collected and expended to the best possible advantage.
  • Ensures maintenance of physical property is in a good and safe state of repair and operation.
  • Prepares an operating plan for the achievement of the center’s specific objectives and mutually established goals and periodically reviews and evaluates the plan.
