Job Responsibilities

• Perform highly skilled and technical procedures (Suprapubic bladder taps, percutaneous central venous catheter placements, etc.).
• Determine a daily plan of care in collaboration with Physicians, Psychiatrists, Nurses, Psychologists, Physician Assistants, and other Nurse Practitioners.
• Perform resuscitation interventions as required.
• Manage the infirmary on night shift.
• Take calls for Physicians on night shift when on duty.
• Serve as a role model to nursing staff and students.
• Document daily progress of patients and write discharge summaries.
• Complete and record health histories of inmates.
• Order diagnostic testing as appropriate.
• Teach/counsel/monitor the treatment regimen in selected populations.
• Write daily orders for fluids, medications, nutrition and respiratory management.
• Perform admission procedures for critically ill patients.
• Evaluate patient response to medical treatment and make changes as necessary.
• Cover for emergencies for the SIB unit when on duty to include suturing.

Minimum And Additional Requirements
SCDC minimum requirements:
(Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources).
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with clinical experience. Two (2) years as a Nurse Practitioner. Licensed as or eligible for licensure as a Nurse Practitioner by the South Carolina Board of Nursing with clinical experience.
