Job Description

Implements patient care activities under the direction of the registered nurse.
Essential Responsibilities:

  • Collects admission data through interview of patient and/or family and/or information from other health care providers as directed by the RN. Supports the psychological, social, spiritual, and cultural needs of the patient and family.

  • Obtains, records and reports vita signs on patients as directed. Implements and documents safe, therapeutic, and efficient care as directed by RN.

  • Documents data collected per standards. Collects and reports data to RN for development of plans for meeting patient/family needs.

  • Maintains call light within patient’s reach and uses designated communication mechanism for patients with impaired hearing, speaking skills, or language barriers.

  • Uses positioning and/or exercise to prevent injury or the complications of immobility. Protects skin and mucoous membranes. Protects patients from falls or other contact injuries.

  • Provides transport to and from nursing units.

  • Performs other related duties as necessary.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience
  • Minimum six (6) months of acute setting within the last two (2) years.

Education
  • High School degree, or equivalent.

License, Certification, Registration
  • Current BLS certification

Additional Requirements:
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other incumbents of the organization.

  • Must be willing to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment.

  • Also refer to Position Specifications outlined in the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.
