POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Nuclear Quality Assurance Engineer will work under the direction of the Mission Assurance Management Team supporting programmatic improvement to, and the effective implementation of the Quality Assurance Program (QAP) (ASME NQA-1 and DOE O 414.1D) across Environmental Remediation and Radioactive Waste Management scopes of work. Your role as a Quality Assurance Engineer will include:

  • Supporting Lessons Learned and Continuous Improvement Initiatives such as Rapid Improvement or Lean Events
  • Providing technical expertise to drive improvement to the compliance, awareness/ understanding, and effective implementation of upper tier requirements, the QAP, and implementing procedures
  • Supporting effective implementation of Nonconforming Items and Corrective Action Programs
  • Performing oversight activities: Audits, Surveillances, Independent Assessments and Receipt Inspections (as required)
  • Identifying. analyzing and effectively communicating issues and opportunities for improvement from multiple sources (incl. observations, oversight activities, performance data, metrics, indicators, trends, causal analyses, event investigations)
  • Providing Field support and operations oversight to improve effective implementation of the QAP
  • Supporting effective implementation of supply chain quality (supplier evaluation, selection, documentation, acceptance and inspection of technical requirements)

While effectively collaborating with other team members, your role will be commensurate with your experience and extend across the breadth and depth of the QA Program described above. A typical day is fast paced, you will be multi-tasking, prioritizing and completing activities in many of the areas, including the field and at the same time contributing to longer term programmatic improvements. We will work with you to obtain the required skills and experience to make you successful.


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelors degree in relevant field and at least 10 years of demonstrated and relevant experience. 15 years relevant experience in lieu of degree.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficient with Microsoft office
  • Ability to work in a diverse work environment
  • Current NQA-1 Lead Auditor Certification Required
  • Demonstrable ability to fulfill and promote L&A core values.
  • Adaptable and flexible, work independently or part of a team
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes drug screening, and inclusion in random drug testing program; and onsite access to Los Alamos National Laboratory
  • Willingness to learn new skills and software
  • Advanced math; Expert oral and written communication and ability to interact with all levels of organization and with external agencies
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently
  • Complete understanding and knowledge of Quality Assurance Systems (ASME NQA-1 and DOE O 414.1D (preferred), or ISO: 9001)


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience related to procurement documentation and procurement specification, receipt acceptance, supplier evaluations, monitoring supplier performance, and maintaining evaluated supplier list.
  • Causal Analysis course /experience
  • Lean / Six Sigma certification
  • Strong analytical skills to identify and evaluate quality-affecting issues and risks
  • Experience developing, analyzing, and reporting metrics / performance measures.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret various physical, mechanical, and electrical drawings, specifications.
  • Expertise and knowledge of environmental remediation and waste management projects


LOCATION

Los Alamos, NM - This position requires 99%+ on-site work (infrequent telework) and is contingent on ability to gain site access to Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).
