Job Description

This is a temporary position(s) with the University of Utah First Star Academy for Foster Youth (firststar.utah.edu). The Night Shift Youth Coach will be responsible for monitoring the youth in the dorms at night. We are looking to hire 1-2 people in order to cover all the shifts needed for the entire 4-week program. Position allows for doing activities like reading and homework through the night as long as it is not distracting to the primary responsibilities attached to the position.

Responsibilities
  • Be the first point-of-contact in case of emergencies
  • Collaborate with other staff whenever interacting with youth
  • Employ non-adversarial approaches to behavior management
  • Collaborate with other staff to ensure the well-being and safety of youth in the dorms
  • Stay awake from 11pm to 7am to monitor the common room and hallways of a dorm

Minimum Qualifications
This is an entry-level position. Training will be provided. Must demonstrate an interest in learning about child development and guidance; a willingness to take direction from the assigned teacher; willing to obtain a food handlers permit, TB test, Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) background check, first aid training are required. Demonstrated human relation and effective human relations skills are also required.

Preferences
  • Must be capable of staying awake from 11pm to 7am
  • Interest and/or experience working with youth
  • Must pass a background check & drug check
