Job Responsibilities
The Acute Disease Epidemiology Section (ADES) of the Georgia Department of Public Health (GDPH) is seeking an HAI Prevention/NHSN IP to serve as a regional resource to conduct infection prevention assessments and serve as an NHSN expert for the Healthcare Associated Infections/Antimicrobial Resistance (HAI/AR) team. The ADES carries out a number of activities to identify, prevent, and mitigate certain communicable and/or notifiable infectious diseases. ADES staff work closely with Georgia healthcare providers and associations, the Georgia Public Health Laboratory, and epidemiologists in our 18 health districts. ADES houses several infectious disease specific surveillance teams. The HAI COVID Team conducts surveillance for COVID19 cases in healthcare settings and investigates reports of disease clusters and outbreaks.
The HAI Prevention/NHSN IP will be responsible for leading prevention assessments and serving as an NHSN expert in their assigned region (North, Metro, Central or South Georgia). In coordination with the HAI/AR Program, HAI Prevention/NHSN IPs will provide oversight and subject matter expertise to coordinate prevention in various healthcare settings. These positions are responsible for strengthening infection prevention and control capacity in their assigned jurisdictions.
Tasks Include
  • Schedules and provides efficient infection prevention and control consultation.
  • Conduct follow-up site assessments to ensure that the healthcare facility has implemented mitigation recommendations based on report findings.
  • Conducts specialized training in infection control and prevention activities to mitigate identified gaps, both at individual facilities and collectively.
  • Applies reports from the HAI/AR analytics team to develop prioritized prevention responses in their region.
  • Perform onsite prevention-based infection prevention and control assessments, including a review of healthcare facilities infection prevention plans, direct observation of infection control practices using a standardized tool (e.g., ICAR), and surveillance capacity.
  • Document and compile findings from on-site visits and summarize them in a report and/or tracking system, with key findings and recommendations provided to the participating healthcare facility and other key stakeholders, including the HAI/AR Program.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Collaborate with regional outbreak IP counterpart for responses.
  • Participate in state NHSN validation studies to improve facility reporting.
  • Develops and communicates response targets and goals to regional district staff and other stakeholders.
  • Leads district wide HAI/AR MDRO prevention program by assigned districts.
  • Serve as an NHSN subject matter expert within their region to address clinical questions to NHSN participation and quality reporting.
  • Recommend or develop new infection control tools to improve practices.

Doctorate or Master's degree in nursing, public health or related field from an accredited college or university AND Three years of professional nursing management/supervisory experience AND current Georgia Registered Professional Nurse license AND CPR certified OR Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university AND Seven years of nursing experience AND current Georgia Registered Professional Nurse license AND CPR certified.
