Infection Control Nurse (Nurse Consultant I)

Broughton Hospital is currently accepting applications for a Nurse Consultant I to work in the Infection Control Department. The primary purpose of the Nurse Consultant I (Infection Control) is to maintain systems and processes designed to decrease the likelihood of transmission of illness, and to control the spread of illness once it has occurred. The responsibilities of this position include the collection, entry, aggregation, analysis, and reporting of data to internal and external committees, agencies, and stakeholders. The Infection Control Nurse also develops and provides educational material, ongoing support, consultation, and mentoring to staff across the organizational structure. Additionally, the Infection Control Nurse may be cross trained to assist in the hospital’s Employee Health and Med Clinic which are also part of the department.
Candidates for the Infection Control Nurse position are articulate, organized, detail-oriented, and self-directed while working as a member of the Infection Control team and various committees/work groups. They should demonstrate proficiency in data entry and the use of Microsoft Office programs to produce highly accurate work product within set deadlines and in accordance with policies and standards. Critical thinking, familiarity with quality improvement strategies, flexibility, and the ability to prioritize duties in ever evolving situations is key in this role.
Selected candidates must successfully complete an Infection Control course meeting the NCAC 41A.0206 requirements. The normal work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with flexibility required, including after-hours consultations as needed.

Broughton Hospital operates 382 beds and is one of the three regional psychiatric hospitals with statutory responsibility for operating as part of the Division of State Operated Healthcare Facilities (DSOHF). With the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, we provide help and support to North Carolinians, and their families, experiencing mental illness. Our hospital serves the western thirty-seven (37) counties of North Carolina, as part of the state's system of care and treatment for persons with mental illness.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Qualified candidates must document on the application that they clearly possess the following:

  • 1 year experience in Infection Control
  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Caroline
Management prefers candidates with the following:
  • Previous completion of SPICE course
  • Experience presenting information to audiences
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and/or Publisher

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and one years of experience in the area of specialization.
