Job Description

:

The Nursing Graduate works under direct line-of-sight supervision of the Registered Nurse in the clinical setting and participates appropriately in the patient care delivery process. The incumbent also orients to the RN assignment, excluding independent nursing care. This position may participate in medication administration under the direction and supervision of the licensed RN.

Unit Information:

Are you getting tired of juggling too many patients day after day? Working with too few resources, or staying late to finish charting? Are you ready to do something completely new, and work in an environment driven by growth and innovation? Is it time to enter a completely new field of nursing?

Intermountain Medical Center’s operating rooms may be the perfect unit for you! We focus on providing extraordinary, individualized care for one patient at a time! In the Operating Room you won’t have to care for multiple high acuity patients at once, instead you’ll be able to focus all your attention, time and energy to one patient’s care; easily one of the best aspects of surgical nursing.

Our department truly works as a team. We collaborate with each other to give our patients the best care possible. We are a unit that fosters growth. Each new nurse is paired with another nurse throughout orientation, so you can safely learn the ropes with guidance from your peers. We are passionate about patient safety. We foster a culture of safety in everything we do, like the pre-incision ‘time-out’ to verify patient identity and procedural consent, verifying implants before delivery to the field, safely positioning and ensuring proper padding, and pausing for enough help to safely transfer patients from bed to table.

The operating room offers you an opportunity to partner with our incredible surgeons, and forge strong connections. Physicians are truly our friends in this department! If you’re looking to improve your relationships with the surgeons you briefly interact with during rounds, this is the place to do it! You can work shoulder to shoulder with our surgeons as you dive into scrub nursing and engage in great discussions as you circulate the room. There is no better environment for physician and Advanced Practice Provider interaction than inside an operating room.

We work with a diverse group of specialties and surgeons including:

  • Transplant
  • Orthopedics
  • Trauma
  • ENT
  • General surgery
  • Urology
  • Oncology
  • Neurosurgery
  • Plastics
  • Robotic Specialties
  • Colorectal surgery
  • OB/GYN
  • Cardiovascular surgery

Join us in the operating room and experience your first assigned 40-minute lunch break! After 40 glorious, uninterrupted minutes, you’ll never look back! And you’ll be absolutely delighted when your relief nurse arrives before shift change, you give your hand-off, and you find yourself on your way home right on time! The schedule is truly a cherry on top of a delicious slice of life here at Intermountain Medical Center’s Operating Room. So are you ready to dig in? Apply today! We can’t wait to serve you up a plate of job satisfaction, safe patient ratios and fulfilling the nursing oath to “devote myself to the welfare of those committed to my care."
